Thanks. This is my second attempt at 1/43 die-cast rc conversion but my first real success. The first one was even smaller (Open top Jeep) but lacked torque (wrong gear ratio and weak digital camera motor) and traction (Most of the weight was on the front, under the hood, since I kept all the seats in the back). This time, I got the weight distribution right and fitted a N20 motor. Considering it weighs 5.5 ounces (heavier than my 1/32 Orlandoo), is 2WD and has hard rubber tires, I was quite impressed by how capable it turned out to be. I'm starting to like these 1/43 conversions and am already thinking it needs a trail partner. Maybe a matching 1936 Ford since I have one that would fit the same rear box. If anyone knows where I can find 1/43 driver figurines... |

It is a lot of fun! I just wish more people would try these small scales. I read somewhere on this forum that cars under 1/24th scale were no good outdoors but I strongly disagree. When I quit RC cars in the early 90s (I was getting into MTB competition), I was looking for big fast cars (my last purchase had been a 1/4th scale BMW M3). I got back to RC last December with the exact opposite, starting with 1/32 scale crawlers (customizing Orlandoos) and am now leaning towards 1/43. These tiny cars fit in a pocket and can be taken anywhere. They only need a few square yards for hours of fun. Another great thing about these tiny conversions is the cost: an old toy car, a few bits of scrap metal and less than 40 bucks of electronics and you get a really fun rc car. I encourage all of you, more experienced modelers (after more than 25 years away from RC, I am once again a beginner) to try it out. Last edited by Isna; 02-25-2020 at 02:17 PM. |
