I use molds out of bondo made from the original body. I go into detail more here: Comp tuber The panels can be made right on the body but you cannot roll the edges over and you loose a bit of detail because you can't press as hard. plus I knew i would be making many panels and I wanted to make other molds like bobbed bed sides and a narrowed tailgate. Here are a few shots of the inside of the panels That's exactly how they will stay. no need for any extra strength added. the shape makes them strong. Hay I never got those pics from you from last year. do you think you could send them to me?

i think this is the future of scale models. once a few people catch on to how this is done this is going to be the next step of true scale. i love it and i want to do one for my self. brilliant |

Well a little progress I didn't think i would be doing styrene for a metal body but it's the best media for making some of the smaller molds I finally finished the bed floor I cut out the wheel openings Then I started on the wheel tubs by forming the top with a little heat then cutting out the side and gluing it all together I'll need to add some filler and detail strips before it's done Here is a pic for reference

Well it's been a while but I finally got a little progress on my scale truck. I continued with the rear inner fender molds by adding some ribbing detail. I didn't have any filler but once it gets cleaned up it should look more like the real one then I decided to make the bed floor. This is the first time for this mold and it turned out really good i think. once i get the supports under the floor it should be much more strait. then I made the rear bed panel. this new metal is much nicer to work with and allows me the smooth the panel out more. That's all for now. I'm hoping to have the bed complete this week and get started on the cab later. |

Nice to see this back in the works. I love watching the construction (and destruction) of your metal wonders.

this is going to be sick. Also you probably already answered this, but what is the aluminum your useing from. I thought it said bakeing sheets but isn't that kind of thin?

I got a bit more done lately I got the filler on the inner fenders and smoothed it all out Now it might not look right here but once I did a test piece it looks almost exactly like the real thing And just for fun I dropped a large socket on it to see how i handled the force seems to work good Next I started on the bed supports I didn't like how I had to bolt the bed to the frame through the bed floor on my other truck so I tried something different this time. I started by drilling and tapping some aluminum then I cut them into thin pieces I formed my support and punched a hole for the tab then i glued the tab in and glued the support to the bed Now I'll be able to screw the bed from the bottom up and have the bolts completely hidden lastly I made some more inner fenders and glued them to the bed floor. Hopefully I can get the sides one tonight and get started on the frame.
