I have some of those aluminum repair rods but didn't have a lot of luck with 1/4" or thicker rod. I was using MAPP gas. Though these creeper links are hollow, so that may be the key. It looks like a nice job.

What are using to hold the pins in your shafts? Looks like blue heat shrink or maybe fuel tubing?

this is what i used

aluminium repair rods(durafix maybe?)
butane torch
vise grips
rotary tool.

step 1. bent up original steering arm to clear everything
step 2. marked where i needed tab and removed arm from creeper
step 3. cut off tab from old aluminium steering knuckle.
step 4. grinded surface of steering arm so it was all clean and flat.
step 5. using vise grips to hold tab on arm.
step 6. heat up with butane (would be better with MAPP or LP gas) as butane just doesnt heat up quick enough for my liking.
step 7. apply the repair rods to join together.

then let it rest for a few minutes.
thats pretty much it.

I kind of figured thats what you used ,,,Youll have to keep us updated on how well it holds up....stirring ideas

Default link/battery mount

i re-brazed my steering arm link so it was a bit of a beefier join. seems to be holding up fine, have given it a few hard hits and hasn't bent or snapped off yet.

also spent a half hour making up a new rear link plate and battery holder
it was a very quick job, not very good quality workmanship but good enough.

thanks to RMDW i sorta stole your idea.

so coz i am still running 6 cell sub c packs, i am mounting 3 cells on this plate and the other 3 on my other battery plate.

heres a pic of how it goes, keeps the weight fairly lowish allround still want to put some more weight.

i'm thinking about ordering a rooster crawler and 45t
and some white dot rovers.

Smile new boots

so my white dot rovers arrived the other day.
upon opening the pack i was impressed as to how sticky they stuck to the bag
i must say there is no comparison to the stock tires, they just grip in every scenario sooo much better.
will definately need to look into some different foams though, as the ones that come with them i think are too short, and seem to leave a big air pocket between the tire and foam resulting in a lot of tire warping. probably doesnt help by having the the rims vented at the moment.

also installed a cc bec, and have ordered a 3s lipo, coz i have been having load issues when bound up, keeps on shutting it self down. i'm pretty sure it has to do with my nimh cells starting to show their age, and cant supply the voltage required for the steering and throttle at once.

You definitely need taller foams to fill Rovers. My Paradox foams fill them nicely,,,hint hint...lol. You definitely want your wheels vented ,,however I personally dont recommend venting the tires themsleves although a ot of guys do.

Your electrical loading is due to the servo pulling so muc power its over drawing the Rx. Overload protection in the Rx is probably shutting it down,,or it is losing signal because the servo is drawing power away from the Rx. The BEC should resolve that for ya.

BTW,,the rear alxe plate idea,,you didnt steal it,,you took it in the back room and bent it over the case of stock tires,,,,lol. Naw its all good man. Im glad to see that my ideas make thier way onto people's rigs in whatever fashion.

Youll probably want to sipe your Rovers too. Let me know if you want to see a siping diagram that works well.

thanks RMDW that would be great if you have a good siping diagram i could refer to.

regarding the foams, i'm going to have a bit of a go at cutting my own, my brother works st a bedding place so is able to get me many different types of foams. so i'll give them a try. if they dont work out i might have to order some paradox foams off you

i must say i am loving these white dots!

Default wearing out

i noticed last week , what was the possiblity of a little hole in the bottom of the transmission casing. and after a good few more hours of crawling had another look. and sure enough i now have a good size hole in my housing from it wearing away whilst sliding.!. now i can see all my gears in there, hmmm

this made me have a good look at all the other areas which are always sliding over rocks, and yep sure enough front and rear axle housings are also almost through. i can depress the plastic in with little force with my fingers. so wont be long till they have holes as well.

looks like i need to make some skids of somekind..

has any one else gone through the plastic in these places.??

snapped a coupe a pics to show you guys.

here is pic of diff housing, you can almost see how warped it has become as it is soo thin now!

CA and baby powder will work as a fix till you get new axle and transmission housings.

that's frickin amazing dude... Maybe try the extended front skid plate that Venom has - VNR 8348... I put one on mine and it helps to keep my rig from hanging up on the front lower lip of the tranny, might also help to reduce the wear on the case too...

i have always contemplated getting that skid, might pick one up and see if it takes the strain off it a bit,..

in the mean time i might use some fibreglass resin to seal it back up..
