Default Wk driveshaft dig!!

Well after finding this info on here(http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...driveshaft+dig), I decided to try one on my WK.

Quick trip to lowe for parts.
2 3/8 x 1/4 brass pipe bushings. Stock# 34951
I couldnt find the valve seats shown in the link above but i am going back for some more!!
1/2 inch x 5 ft pvc pipe Stock# 23967
And 1 nail i had laying around!!!
Also some traxxas shafts# 4951x
Cut two male driveshaft ends. I didnt measure to start i just eyeballed. One end was a 1 3/8 other was 7/8th of a inch. The nail goes inside them. I glued one end in and left the other loose just to keep things in line.

I threaded on of the brass bushing into the pvc pipe before i cut the busing and pipe. I cut the end off the bushing after it was in nice and tight. Ended up with this.( Reason i did it this way was to make sure it wasnt to long)

I drilled holes through the side of the pvc to help hold it while threading in the other end, Plus that is where the linkage will mount later.

I cut a female piece that slides inside the pvc. I has to stay loose in there so i made it 1/8 inch shorter(Was 5/8ths long) than the space betwwen the bushing. You can see it floating around in there.

I threaded the other bushing in as tight as i could and cut the remaing part off. Leaving enough to notch for the driveshaft locks.

Gave it a test fit to see how it slides.

Cut some notches and drilled a hole for a set screw to keep things from turning.

Notches were cut to fit a link set screw. I drilled a hole thru the shaft and threaded A link grub screw thru.
Also made some linkage mounts out of some axial 3 link parts.
Put all together it turned out like this.

Revisions to come tomorrow!!
After testing it out i realized i could have made the pvc about 1/2 inch longer on the locking end. Mine is short enough to were i think it is going to give me problems trying to keep 4wd engaged. So i am going to go after 2 more valve seats/ bushing tomorrow and get the servo mount made. Short vid of test shifting!

Got it up and running. Just went for 4wd and lock for now!
Works good so far, but could use a little fine tuning.

Just did some fine tuning, flipped the servo and filed down some things.. I have free wheel, dig and 4wd now. Been doing digs on the carpet for a whole battery pack. So far so good. Will post up a vid after i go pick up my kids.

On one side the screw head touches just a little under full flex. But it just clears while shifting. I just ran a whole 1300mah pack thru it shifting like crazy and it held up great!!
Couple of quick vids!!

Flipped the servo and did a few adjustments. Working good, gonna hit the rocks with it tomorrow!!

Touches the screw head just a little right here in 4wd. But it clears it when the suspension cycles up n down!

As you use it more the collar will eventually start to twist around. My suggestion would be to use longer screws with some sleeves that can slide on your links and prevent the twisting.

Here is how I setup my old WK dig back in the day:
http://www.noeither.com/rc/tech/dig.php

The longer screws slide on the links and prevent a total bind up situation.

I will keep a eye on it. I used a set screw drilled thru the pvc into the brass on the locking end to help keep it from twisting and the other end where my shifter linkage is is tapped into the brass also.
Are you talking about making these longer to slide on the links?

Thanks for the help!!
I might end up rebuilding one like yours, i liked it!!!

If I happen to get the parts from the shop sooner I can for sure ship it out quicker.

Thanks
