Default Bully + 4PK + 2 x ESC + 4 wheel steering

Dear all,

after reading lots of great posts from the electronics section i figured out that i can't have 4 wheel steering and dig functions at the same time.

correct me if im wrong!

What i would want is to have my crawler cabable to do the follwoing

4 wheel steering
4 wheel crab steering
2 wheel steering

dig front drive
dig rear drive
permanent 4 wheel

Now i was reading about the Novak Dig controller - NVK5450

Is their a way to use this in concunjtion of the 4pk and be able to use all the above functions

Thanks

Reading that post, you don't get crab steering or front dig.

The 4PK has enough channels to do everything you need, but it only seems to have 2 programmable mixes. Even if it had enough mixes, I don't think you can have a mix that gives you zero output on the master channel and full movement on the slave channel.
I don't think that there's any Tx that'll give you all the functions as standard, unless you are OK controlling the 2 ESCs or the 2 servos using separate sticks on a 6ch airplane radio.

You could modify a Tx to do everything you want - see my build threads.
Using a couple of rotary switches and 2 mixes, you could combine both ESCs and both servos to work from a single steering control and a single throttle control.

Harvy's super setup above doesn't give ya usable rear dig or crab. Just add a novak dig unit for the dual esc (or punk dig and one esc) and use one channel and a three position dial for dig. Then ya can use the two mixes for the rear steer and have everything ya want.

You still won't be able to get rear-only steering, if that's a problem.

I thought of this idea but how can you set it

channels settings is as follows right?

1 - steering front + program mix to channel 2
2 - steering rear
3 - throttle
4 - to dig electronic unit

Also is the Novak dig unit any good and reliable?

Thanks guys

Sure ya can. Just set a dial to the rear steer channel and it's live all the time.

So the 4PK has an extra pot that you can use to control the rear channel independently?
That'll work, but it'll need setting to neutral or the 4WS mixes will act weird.

I started out with independent steering pots on my modded Txs, but changed to a single pot and a 4-position switch. Easier to use, but harder to build!

But you are using 2 ESC's yea? So that wouldn't work? Or are you just going with 1 ESC now?

The 4pk has 6 "dials" (actually 3 real dials and 3 3way switches that can do about any thing and have from 3 to 100+ positions) and three 2 way switches. Yes ya would have to go back to neutral for the mixes to be centered. I would set the top dial for independent steering and set one of the dial/switches around the wheel to 3 or 5 position switch to toggle to neutral easily. I would use one of the other dial/switches around the wheel for the 4ws/off/crab mixes and the other one for front dig/4wd/rear dig. Then I'd use the two dials on the grip to change mix %s and the grip and wheel switches for dig functions. At least I'm planning on try it down the road.

Yes that will work. I like that the novak dig switch is on the receiver side of the esc but running two esc without the mixing % control is kind of a waste.:? The dig/dual esc novack unit looks like it allows the mixing but I don't really like everything in one box :-( and it only allows 2 cells so that completly sucks. Maybe they will come out with a stand alone dig that allows mixing?

I take it that your not going to wire up the BEC like Castle says then? The Novak will only handle a 2s yea or will it handle a 3s?

Thanks for that explanation. I'll have to download the manual and have a read.
Sounds more complicated than my Futaba T7C airplane Tx!

Actually the way i planed it, is the way the instructions says

from battery split one way to the ESC and another to the CC BEC which than leads to the receiver.

He shows the bec powered by the battery and powering the receiver. How is that not as per derections? The novak "dig switch" doesn't care about about esc/motor power, only receiver power. It is powered by the bec though the receiver and contols dig fuctions. You really need to pay attention.:?

Couple of things,: ya don't have to power the dig switch with the bec. It and the servos will be powered by the receiver. Not sure if it is good idea the run two big servos and dig power through the receiver. Ya might want to power the servos direct. I'm not sure there is an extra slot to plug the bec into on 4pk receivers. Ya may have to Y the power somewhere. But You got it pretty good.
