I'm seriously considering getting a CC for my next project. I love building and modding and tinkering with designs and whatnot. I don't comp.. i just run for fun

I will most likely pick up the prebuilt model because the axles are the only thing i would really end up using anyway. Cant really beat the price. and i would probably put the metal gears in right off the bat.

Tell me what you love and what you hate about the cc axles.

give it to me straight.... no sugar coating it.. are these axles worth it?

Are you going to use stock motors and tires? If you stick with stock stuff you should be fine, i still havent stripped anything yet. You might as well keep the stock gears in until you strip them.

Goods
-cheap
-moa, it is like a mini super class
-simple
-different, your not just following the group

-it costs about the same price as a good set of tires, but you get tires axals shocks ext

Bad
-very few aftermarket parts
-brushings come stock
-weird motor size
-dogbones not driveshafts, i just like driveshafts more than dog bones

Now with all that said i like my cliff climber, but the stock electronics are crap, and who thought of using two batterys instead of one larger one

well i do scale/trail trucks, fun run and local club stuff mostly, and i love them. heres some of my pros and cons...from a trail trucker point of view.

pros:
Cheap
Easy to get parts
Easy to mod
Motor on axle leaves room for a interior
They are narrow (easy to get your tires under the fenders)
Good mix of speed and torque for a trail truck (im running banebots 390s and a 9.6v battery)
Clodstall (in a scaler its not realy bad it actualy helps prevent rollovers in hillclimbs and saves that nice detailed body a lotta grief).
Leaf springs are a walk in the park to mount.

Cons:
Plastic gears, metal ones are almost required right out of the box.
Stock motors arnt great (but banebots are only 3.50)
Gearing isnt the best for all out rock crawling (but its great for trail riding

)
The axle houseings arnt sealed so mud bogging is a big no-no

Almost no aftermarket support and upgrades besides the DTX brand ones.
Two motors and the need for lots of voltage kinda makes getting a capeable esc more costly.
Doesnt handle bigger 2.2 tires well
Stock servo mount is very flexy (not a issue yet but im keeping my eye on it)

Im sure there are more for each side but thats all i got.

I wouldn't if I were you just for the cost factor to quality ratio.

1. Truck kit $50.
2. steel gears $36.
3. bearing kit $20.
4. Cv shafts set of 4 $45.

All this is $151.00 no shipping just for crappy plastic axles. Not firm prices just what I found quick on the net.

$8 more $$$ you can have this set

Thats a very good point. I had no idea the upgrades were that much.

i'll tell you this much from a mechanics' point of view: CHALLENGING. all my buddies have other crawlers. rs10s, ax10 one has a bully. those other rigs seem to have alot of support. even the redcats have various factory options. the duratrax...graphite patterns and...metal gears. you are on your own.

the pros: cheap
very simple to work on
every mod is a step in the right direction
4 link susp.
light weight
size

the cons: size, she is pretty small
the 4 link (can get in the way w/ bigger motors)
you know bout those gears
wheels- get negative offset.
narrow axles, need to push wheels away from them links and
springs

the first thing you need to do is get the all metal gears and all ballbearing to replace the brase bushings, aside from that get the aluminum steering knuckles. after you have these items you should good to go. i've been running my cc with no problems once i got these items. aside from the ocational clod stall.hope this helps

Im just itching to build something new... and want to try a MOA.

I've about decided against the CC...
At first i thought i would just buy the prebuilt and do lots of homemade modding and play around with it.

But on second thought,, i dont really want to sink as much money as its going to take for something in the long run i probably wouldn't be satisfied with. I know it wouldn't take as much money as the expensive rigs.. but at this point i think i need to step it up a notch.. or three.

Now im having crazy thoughts about saving up for bergs or bullys.

i hear you on that one. with everything i've into mine, that's the next step for my rig. although ive have been checking out that cosi comp crawler. turn that thing into a moa, have a spare trans with dig for my crazy scaler build

CC's are kind of like owning a VW bug. They are a blast to drive, fun to own and always in need of some repair or another. People who own them love to hate them and people who don't, just hate them. That said, I enjoy my CC and as soon as I get it fixed, I will enjoy it some more.

i bought a cc last year, and over time i stripped all but 2 items. both axles and the body. the first thing i did was to replace the bushing with the bearing set. beware the smallest of the bearing didnt fit quite right when i bought them about 6 months ago

. had to order a set from boca bearing to get the right size

. after that a upgraded the motors to the dtxc 8500, then to the 11,000. im still using the 11,000 motors. also extended the wb to 13'' using traxxas revo push rods and turnbuckles

. added a cc 10amp external BEC. working on some good pic's. will post soon.

My H2 has only cost me like 100 bucks so far. iv added a lot of stuff since this pic and got a lot more flex out of it.

i love my cc. being my first crawler, and i am stubborn as ...

. with all the stuff i've done to mine, she's dialed in. my buddy's on his way over with his ax10. the backyard comp is on

i refuse to give up on the cc & vw's are my specialty

wow! whats up with cc's and VW, I am a huge fan of air cooleds but never owned one. Have an Audi right now, on bags, but can't wait to do a bagged air cooled volksrod. My buddys have some pretty sweet air cooleds and one owns a shop and works on them constantly!
