Default Project: Land Rover LR3 on 1.9's Mud slingers (used to be 1:12 silverado)

Hello again my friends.

I have not had too much time to work on my RC truck.
But I was not really happy with the 1:12th Silverado body I used.

shown here in original build thread:

Project: Scale Silverado SS 1.9's X-trail Hardbody. My 1st Scaler

So I was looking for a 1:10th scale body and came across the New Bright Land Rover LR3
so I decided that would be a great truck to make my Scaler off roader.

I have much work to do.
here a few things i am looking into.

Tamiya Axles as I think they are shorter than the AX10's
Need a new set of wheels as well.
if I use the ax10 axles i need 0mm offset.
if i use tamiya high lift axles I think I can use any.

I have to mount the body as well.

but here are a few pics.
I made a short youtube video so that I did not have to upload all the pictures.

here is that.

Nice.

I thought your Silverado was pretty sweet.

I'm in the process of building my X-Trail LR3. Mine has a little different body with an interior.

So I have not had to much time to work this project but I have talked with my land lord who has a machine shop and I am making a custom chassis so that I have more adjustment on my Land Rover.
I am making my own custom chassis out of light weight 1/8th aluminum.

I have made a few recent purchases as well.

Instead of the dark drifter LED kit I am going to be using a new one I found (in Hong Kong haha)
it hooks up to the speed control and to the servo.
so when you brake and revers the LED lights go on for that also when you stear the blinkers turn on.
I also ordered a lot of extra LED lights to fully make all
the lights work.

Instead of using the old Tank smokers I found ones that work better and are more smoke.
as well as hook up to the speed control for proportional smoke. lol

well much to come soon i hope.
I am getting married September 14th next month so things will get busy

Take care and enjoy the pics.

New Frame will also help me fill the wheel wells in with a smoother look. I was going to fab them in later but this will help be a better start.

LED light kit with reverse light function and blinker and brake.

Smoker

So stay tuned.
I am also savin some cash for my first full Tamiya High Lift kit.

So i had a chance today to cut out my chassis rails on a massive vertical band saw

I am going to use my xtrail to mock up some holes and then drill them on a drill press. But I do not want a ton of holes just ones that need to be there.

OK Still much more needed to finish

So I was tempted and had to go back over to the machine shop and drill some holes!
Now later tonight I will try to mock assemble it.
I am thinking about painting the frame black as well.

take a look and please let me know how you like it?
I see the view went up an extra 100 at least and no comments! :-( Is it that bad. lol j./k

I ended up taping the xtrail to mine to use it for hole guide as well.

So please tell me your thoughts on my frame. good or bad.

I am watching the mail closely for my other do hickys and cant wait for them to arrive.

NEW HEADLIGHT and taillight vid with revers and blinkers take a look at this too!!! not my vid but the one from the site I bought it at.
22$ for the light kit!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24Dlm9-H0eQ

also here is some more stuff that i have that is new.
some imports from hong Kong.
this store i found called rcmart.com
They make black ones as well!!
they are aluminum and very good quality!!!
only 29$ for the set of four!!! with multiple offset..

they attatch diffrent than I am used to!!

I like the look better because it hides the nuts.
but still is a pain to unscrew them all. haha

so i went shopping and found a clod buster on ebay for sale and came with two bodies and many many parts almost 2 full clods!!! one is a super clod the other is a original clod!!

both never painted and the 4x4x4 one was never used.
other is used but not painted. :o)

its an original clod but no bowtie!!! and no chevy written on the back
must not be as old as the others!

still a good find!! :o)

Also picked up a brandy new
Spektrum DX6
and I plan on doing the mod to make it both spring loaded sticks.

toodles

I've seen 4-link kits for leaf sprung trucks so either way would be scale. But the 4-link would work better. I dont have experience with them but I remember people saying the leafs would wear out and break.

Hi All.
I have made some cool changes to my crawler/trail truck.
take a look at the youtube video I made.
It makes it easier than uploading a lot of pics here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CpVHEJwS4Q

Smoke is train smoker

Still working on everything.
Much work to do just need to find the time.

take care.
let me know how you like the truck so far.

SCRAP the LR3 IDEA! haha
thats crazy talk.

I plan on completing it 100%
THEN move onto one of the other trucks.
haha I do not want ten projects going at ones.
Then I may never finish either!

I am working on my LR3 but I also am thinking I will use one of the clod bodies on the LR3 frame as well.
it will be easy to mount.
it sits up higher so i would be using some other rims and tires.
I will just switch them when i want to use that as well.

thanks for the comments.

I bought the rims from rcmart.com

that place is in Hong Kong i believe.
I live in the USA.

they have a TON of cool products.
I bought a lot and the shipping was only 17$

the rims where only 29.99
they come in three styles and are adjustable offset using adaptors that come with them.

look for them under 1:10th offroad wheels.

they are aluminum and very good quality

i am going to order some black ones as well

hi again.
I have been working a little on my truck.
also toying with the clod body mounting it to the lr3 chassis as well. need opinions on that.
but I have replaced the stock motor on the smoke unit and beefed it to a bigger one that can handle the voltage coming from the ESC.

take a look.

messin around

doesnt look to good but its an idea i had of like a mini tv but its just pics but still looks cool!! would be nice in someones scale rig as a LCD tv haha

keep you posted after I get the 10 ohm resistor installed and how it works off all the RC power! :o)

take it easy

Brian
