Default Not your father's Creeper build. Typical is not.

Teaser shot:
Motor

front end

Guts is pretty normal.
Novak 2S Goat system
Airtronics MX3 radio, no dig
CYS servo, needs to be replaced.

Crappy IMEX Rubicon tires, needs to be replaced.

I got tired of seeing the same old Creeper chassis and build everyone has here. So I decided to see if I can't set about improving the Creeper, and I believe I may have succeeded. Shocking surprise for me. More testing will ensure, but for now, my friends have told me that this crawls quite well.

More pics to come

so what's the reasoning behind having the tranny sideways?

I was wondering the same thing, now the driveshafts are no longer centerline and the weight is transfered to one side. I can't see the advantage of laying it on it's side.

Weight is lowered on its side...but how much is gonna be negatable.

It needs shorter shocks right now, and the weight is well balanced.

top down view:

Does your drive shafts really have to be centered? I mean, look at the success of the Axial AX10, that drive shaft is hardly centered by any means. Any ways, it's something different and it works very well. Again, I need to lower the chassis down to 2.75" of belly clearance w/ shorter shocks, and swap out a pair of rod ends to get it back to 12.5" WB.

Not Delrin. Using G10 fiberglass sheets and seaboard for the skidplate. Seaboard is slick, but not quite as hard as Delrin. The flip side was the Seaboard was cheap, and easy to prototype. So when I finalized my design, I'll make the skidplate out of Delrin.

The front plate is bolted just to the axle, I used the stock top link mounting for the top links. You can see it here better:

the losi comp crawler has the same offset driveshafts also, its better than having that big pot belly hanging down there, great idea i like it you could try moving your upper shock holes back a 1/2" to lower you ride height its cheaper than new shocks!! worth a try imo:?

Yah, I was thinking of that too. I'll be making some shock extensions to raise the top shock mount higher to lower the chassis. I have a lot of belly clearance to lower!

or you could go back to the stock location on the rear axle that should lower your ride height quite a bit overall

Made some more changes to the chassis.

Added a shock riser so I could lower the crawler to a more manageable height. It now rides at 2.65". Gained more steering and has the right amount of articulation, it does a soda can now.

Results are in! It crawls GREAT!

Hopefully I can get a video of it crawling. Need some minor adjustments.

Get the belly clearance up higher a tad, swap out the oil in the shock for some heavier weight, clean up some corners on the chassis, and get some small 2S packs in.

I'll shoot some pictures of it on the rocks and hopefully a video of it soon.

Made some more changes to the Creeper. Added HPI's Rock Grabbers, and rock grabbers they are NOT. They do not perform like the HB Rovers I have on my AX10. So looks like I'll be spending some time adding Rovers to wheels for my buddy's Creeper.

Took off both the front and rear skid plate. Routed the rear toe links to the axle since the skid plate is now gone.

Lowered the chassis to a more reasonable 2.75" and it crawls WELL!

Next on my list is to fix my torque twist I have. Maybe more weight in the wheels or change the rear and/or front link set up. We'll see.

Overall, we're quite impressed with the performance of this crawler and the clocked transmission worked out great.

This rig is dialed! CoG is awesome, even with me testing with the 2S pack sitting on top of the transmission. Fixed my torque twist issue I had.

Can't wait till the little 2S packs comes in!
