Here is a list of some common questions about building a 2.2 Clod with links to examples. Much of this applies to big Clods as well.

How do I shave the axles:
Shaving the axles on a 2.2 Clod is a must for any decent ground clearance.

How do I mount 2.2 wheels on a Clod.
For a narrower width and to meet the RCC 2.2 class 12.5" width limit you need to run a
wheel made for the rear of a Traxxas electric Stampede/Rustler or the front of a
Traxxas nitro Stampede/Rustler.
If you use Traxxas wheels you will need a spacer under the wheel nut to keep the wheel tight, with RPM wheels you wont need the spacer.
rounding hexes with 2.2's

You can run a wheel made for the front of a Traxxas electric Stampede/Rustler or the
rear of a Traxxas nitro Stampede/Rustler for a wider stance but this makes the width
almost too much for a 5" tall tire. I would recommend a 5.5" tall tire for this.

How do I narrow 2.2 wheels:
I would recommend only narrowing the wheel by cutting off the outer bead to help narrow the overall width; but double narrowing is certainly an option.

What tires can I run on a 2.2 Clod:
Currently the best choice is the Proline Masher 2000 for 2.2 wheels.

The Proline 2.2 Moab is another good choice but is much narrower and can cause the diffs to hang on the rocks more.

Imex makes some great tires that are 5.5" tall but do not grip as well as the
Prolines. The smaller Imex tires look good but are short and can cause diff clearance problems on the rocks.

In my review of the All-T's I found them to work as well as the Mashers in the test situation but as I found out trying them in competitions, the Proline's have better traction. I still run All-Ts because of the look and they do work good, but just not as good.

Of course, being the maniacs they are, the ORCRC guys have glued tread from Proline tires on the Imex Red Rock tires to get both good traction and the extra height. This is not a cheap proposition though.

Should I use foam:
I personally prefer to use foam especially with the weight of Clod axles. I use a 4" tall foam from Proline and I narrow it by cutting 1/3 the width off when used with a single narrow wheel and Masher 2000 tires. With a double narrow wheel I cut the foam in half.

The foam from a Masher 2000 fits real well in a Imex All-T tire.

The Utah guys prefered not to use foam in their 2.2 Clods and their rigs work great so I can't say there is anything wrong with not using foam. Double narrowed wheels and Masher 2000's made for excellent turning compared to single narrowed Masher 2000's with no foam though.

What wheelbase should I run with a 2.2 Clod:
For competition you cannot run over 12.5" WB. For a basher you can run a little more.
I like 13.5" - 14" when using the Imex 5.5" tall tires, on my first built I used about 11.75" for a scale fit.

What servo should I run:
I would recommend a servo with at least 133 oz-in of torque.
A popular choice is the Hitec HS-645MG or HS-945MG Analog. My personal favorite is the HS-5645MG digital for a good compromise between torque and battery drain. The more power a servo has the more drain it puts on your battery and the more strain on you BEC.

I have tried the Hobbico CS-70MG but found it to strip gears very easily and had marginal torque.

What speed control (ESC) should I run:
I still use my Novak Super Rooster or Rooster. I love them. You can run a single HS-5645MG on the Rooster without overloading the BEC but it wont really handle anything stronger than that without a RX battery pack. These are discontinued now though.

3. It can be done w/ a Dremel and so patients. But I for one wouldn't do it to my cases.

another thing, ive seen people say they use rear stampede wheels and some use fronts, which is it? im using the clod 12mm hex.

I THINK IT IS A 12 OR 13 WHAT EVER IS THE STOCK PINION WITH OUT GRINDING ON THE CASES

I personally use the rears, they narrow the truck more than the fronts. It's better in my opinion, but if you're using taller tires (like all-t's) use the fronts. Mine just seemed to get hung-up on more stuff with my mashers when I used fronts, plus, I like the scale look that the rears give the truck.

Both will work, it just depends on the terrain and how you want the truck to look.

im gonna have to pull off my redrocks and put them on rears because next year orcrc is changing to national rules so it wil be outside of the limit.

If you double narrow the rear pede wheels you will come in at about 12.25" with red rocks.

unscrew the knuckle pivot screws, install washers, put the knuckles and screws back on

just go get some grade 8 1/2" washers from Home depot( they are in the drawers and 3 washers per bag and are like $.79) and follow what I told you. There will be no slack or nothing. They are a tight fit in there

took care of it used two washers and sanded it to fit them, its a little tight on one side and loose on the other but i used some spacers to take it up.

p.s. how wide should the rear pedes be to come in at 12.5?

-Thundert tech straight rear axle kit
-65t integy motors
-Super rooster ESC
-Spectrum DX3 TX
-Masher 2k on Tamiya narrow wheels
-Home made stick tortion chassi(works great!!)
-Of course some of our batteries

-HiTec 5955TG servo
