| My Revo / E-Maxx conversion build.
Hello, I am new to crawling and am basically just getting started. I decided I wanted to build something inexpensive, and fun. I already had a Revo, which in Nitro form sucks for crawling so I decided to convert it to electric. In no way am I pioneer in converting Revo's to electric, but I have not seen many people on here or other forums with full purpose built Revo crawlers. Many are still bashers. I figured I'd post, say hi, introduce myself and show you what I've got going on here... My conversion entailed finding a E-Maxx transmission which was sourced new on eBay. The installation was pretty straight forward, some minor cutting was required to fit the trans in the hole of the chassis, and some minor grinding was needed above the driveshafts to clearance the chassis. Parts used for conversion:
As far as crawling goes this thing is fun and it works really well. It is not as good as some of the super comp crawlers I have seen; but I have no intention of competing this was all for fun, something I can do that doesn't involve racing cars. I will shoot some video in the near future but it handles our rock crawling test course with ease, and it climbs the stairs of my townhouse. I plan on adding a second motor and changing the gearing (running a 15/72 combo right now which is too low.) With a couple of Brood 65T Checkpoints on there I think I will have more than enough grunt. As is it's good, but those tires take a lot of torque to get going once they get stuck in a hole. I had to run Rx pack to give the servo enough juice, and I am also setting this up for rear steer. I have a complete rear steer rig setup for it, but the shortness of the wheelbase make the rear steer almost useless. When I stretch this out with the extended 3.3 chassis and extended arms I will start using the rear steer. Pictures: This antenna mount is pretty trick. Instead of having you antenna all bunched up you coil it around this nice fiberglass mount. -Wes |

The body is an original RC10T body from back in the day. One of the guys I work with had it and let me use it...I like it because it's old school and looks kind of bronco/jeep/crawlerish.

That's pretty cool. I'm in the process of building an E-Revo for racing and a friend of mine has one too. We were just talking about How it would crawl. Prolly way better than the nitro (revo rocks project)!!!!!!!!

It crawls really well. We have a rock course setup and it has no trouble on it at all. It can take lines that I've seen other trucks get stuck on, it's much better than most of the 2.2 crawlers I've seen; but not as good as some of the super crawlers I have seen. The wheel base sort of hampers it when it needs to get started on a large obstacle, but at the same time it also helps to keep it from getting hung up on stuff. I will try to take some video this week and post it, I'm surprised on how well it crawls some stuff...we have a starting area that is a very steep, almost smooth surface and it can scoot right up it, I've never seen any other truck make it up that part of our course. I need to do some work to it, I want to make some skid plates for the arms and other parts. I also need to add way more weight to the front wheels, I have almost none right now. |

New: I installed a couple of Team Brood 65 turn Checkpoint based motors today, even with it over geared all I can say is WOW the torque is insane. I am waiting for a couple of pinions from RC4WD so I can have this geared right but it looks like I will have ample power. I ran them through my motormaster last night, 6600 rpm @ 7.0V ... can't wait to see what they do on the turbodyno and in the truck! |
