| 1.9 Heavy Chevy Now with "DANKYSTEER"
well I was waiting to see if anyone had caught the not so ordinary steering setup I added to this rig. Ive been wanting to try out a cable steer setup for a while now to eliminate being able to see the steering servo on a scale rig but never managed to get it to work..... until now. The body is just resting on the chassis for mockup I want to lower it down a bit. here are a couple pics of the cable steer i designed. It works a lot better than I anticipated. I thought Id loose a lot of power transfering the servo throw through a cable but i bench tested it and it is really strong. Ill see if I can make a short movie of it working tonight once I get off work. Last edited by dankycrawler; 01-23-2008 at 12:15 PM. |

I have a few more pics to post up. Im still looking to lower the ride height and run some smaller wheels. if anyone has pics of how they mounted leafs without the lift blocks that would be great. I think if I do run this setup with the reduced mashers this is about how im gonna mount my body. I made the mount for my shifting servo and tucked it in right next to the steering servo. Im running a backwards r2d for a 2 to 4 wheel drive setup. I had one like it in my landy and it was a ton of fun getting stuck in 2wd and shifting it to 4wd. Im thinking turned down tlt shocks would be a nice touch. im gonna shave em down today and see . need to work on the driveline angle a bit. i guess i have to lower the tranny some more . some other misc shots HEY!! what the... |

that driveshaft angle looks ok, if you need more clearance you can just dremel the yokes for a few more degrees.

Driveline looks cool. I think the Dinky rc leaf blocks are shorter maybe. Tires and rims look almost at home. Definately like the look of the hummer wheels on chevies. Turned down Tlt shocks should look great. Back to the drivelines I agree with obijaun trim the yokes and you should be clear. The angles will inprove as the suspension compresses so as long as the wheels dont drop trophy truck style I thin your good. Great truck. Yeah make that yota its bro, the mashers size look better.

Wow talk about a long term project... started this as one more than a year ago and it still isnt finished!! Well I decided to ditch the cable steering idea on this rig for a more tried and tested steering setup. I think I am going to start trying to make it out to some scaler runs here in the southbay and want it to be as reliable as possible. The cable steer worked pretty well but after three runs @ panther beach decided to somewhat self destruct and needs a little retrofit so I just took it off. I also lowered it and am either going for some 1.9 slingers or good ol bfg's. the slingers still rub a lil.. Im not all that into trimming the body a bunch.. but I think they look a bit better. here are some pics . sorry cameraphone pics BFG's Mounts for battery n shift servo |

Well I still have yet to finish this thing... Im begining to wonder if I ever will, but its a runner. no paint yet I want to work out the bugs first. Ive been snapping diaz leafs left n right on this thing. Its got a reversed R2d so I can shift from 2-4 wheel drive .. I got pinched hard in 2wd and snapped both rear leafs.. and snapped the rear drive shaft. Result of first test run in the back yard.... had a set of derlin leafs so I slapped those in along with some anti wrap bars in the rear. After I got it all fixed up I took it out o lexington resivior, I found a really sweet spot to run scalers lots of mud n rocks hill climbs really sweet all sorts of terrain. gettin stuck in 2wd is tons of fun ... just click into 4 and back on your way. ended up snapping a front leaf out there today..... not sure how I was bashing around pretty hard ... but im getting quite a collection of busted diaz leafs now ... I think im gonna look for an alternative. well im gonna fix her up again tonight and hopefully get back out there tomorrow. Last edited by dankycrawler; 06-14-2008 at 10:39 PM. |
