| Galvanised steel Fj pickup truck Well Hello everyone! Ive been browsing this forum for a while now, reading up and working on my first build. This things taken me about a year so far (lost interset about half way through :neutral, but its finally coming together. I really wanted to make something with a stock look, no massive tires or anything so i modded up some tamiya mud terrains, theyre rock hard but look awesome imo: I did these using the sidewalls from from midnight pumpkin tires then dremeled the sides for a reasonably smooth finish. I had figured out pretty much everything on the computer - the problem being what to make the cab out of After trying and failing with aluminium I managed to solder one up out of galv sheet, using molded fiberglass for the hood: This works pretty good for a model with a ruffed up dirty finish the chassis and tranny is a pretty standard setup, but i did do a fair bit to the f350 axles, replacing the ends with soldered brass tube, giving a clean rear and a (hopefully) stronger front. excuse the dangling axle wrap bar: soon to be replaced steering knuckles: the steering is pretty stiff with a chassis mounted servo and a pivoting bit screwed to the axle: pretty much all the stuff is done with LPG soldering, a drill press and a bunch of handtools, no brazing or milling here:-( anyways, heres the rest of the pics (temporary wooden roof) flex: hellishly mesys workspace: Ive still got to hinge the wooden sides onto the bed, mold/paint/fasten the roof, make an interior and paint all the aluminium black At least it runs well:-P now i just need some batteries for it oh yeah, it weighs a F*** load and is about 65cm long. Will post some decent pics when i get it looking a bit more finished. Then i gotta saveup for a hilux highlift thanks to all you guys for the inspiration! cya Leo Last edited by Fracture; 01-07-2008 at 07:30 PM. |

Craftsmanship. I really don't know what to say that would be a big enough compliment. |

I never would have built it if i hadnt found this site, Some of hiluxes, g-wagons, fords and customs here and on scale4x4 are far more impressive than my humble truck The FJ may look good on the net, but the front axle sags in the middle and the whole truck is slightly banana shaped from above I should have the front seat finished in a day or 2 If only i had one of those 1/8 hard plastic fj bodies | |
