So what'd you do this morning?

Since we've been having so many wildfires popping up I decided to take it easy this morning with the idea I'd probably end up running around a good bit this evening. Since we're going wheeling this Saturday I figured I should take some time and fix the roll cage in my Samurai...

Cut the damaged section out...

Bend up a piece and get it ready to buzz it back together...

I've gotta tweak some of the other sections to that everything lines back up and then set up my splices, but it should be back together without much issue this evening. It's gonna need a couple quarts of gear oil too.

Not yet...that pic was of the new piece just sitting there. I'm about to walk out to the shop here in a few minutes and start putting it together. It's gonna take a few ratchet straps to get this back in order but it should go just fine.

So I had a first the other day at work...the Sumter County Landfill caught on fire from some compost piles that spontaneously combusted...the brilliant people that work in the landfill put the compost piles next to an 88 acre mountain of trash. This mountain was covered in broomstraw and other fine fuels...but mostly dead grass at this time of year. They had the fire department out there several times this month to spray water on the piles, but on this day the wind was blowing directly at the landfill...well you get the idea...I wish I got some pictures of the flames, but when I first arrived on scene there were 25-30 foot flames running across the mound so I had to haul tail around it with my drip torch and get it burn out before it had an opportunity to jump across the perimeter road and onto adjacent woodlands...

I got a kick out of these signs...
