Default Scalin @ The Zoo 1/13/13

Open invite to all: A group of us ( I believe 4 so far) are going to the Riverbanks Zoo Sunday after next, 13th, for some scale action. Wear your Sunday worst and say a prayer for no broken pieces. Go time is 0900 so plan on being at the meetup spot maybe 0830. For the newcomers, parking at the Zoo has become somewhat analogous to being in a Turkish prison, so the smart kids park at the carpet store located at 200 Candi Lane. A brief trek through a few parking lots, across the tracks and voila.

The earlybirds get free breakfast.

Wanted to give an update after Ryan's thread regarding the zoo/parking/etc. By the way Ryan, thank you, for reaching out to zoo on everyone's behalf. This is a great location and many of us, both scale and comp, use it quite frequently.

I've talked with Duxx and our plans are this...

As far as we're both concerned, Sunday is still on. There will need to be a few changes and things to think about in light of Ryan's conversation with the Zoo personnel.

1) We will be meeting at the Hilton Homewood Suites at 232 Greystone Blvd., @ 8:30 (just a stone's throw from the zoo turnoff) and carpooling to the carpet store lot. The goal is to draw as little attention as possible to the number of folks that may be participating. A large pile of cars in such a normally vacant lot would definitely draw attention... of the wrong kind.

2) We need to be conscious of the fact that, while the zoo isn't actively "watching" the riverbanks, all it takes is one family to complain that some group of guys were loud and cursing in front of their children... you get the picture. MANY people use the banks all year round for kayaking, fishing, recreational drinking, you name it, and they cross the same stretch of grass behind Candi Lane as we will. Let's just be sure to be the least noticeable about it. I truly believe if we don't give the zoo a reason to be upset with us... they won't be.

3) Please don't leave trash of any kind behind. This should go without saying, but we need to be diligent about leaving it the same or better than we found it.

Duxx and I have been going down to the zoo to scale for over a year now and we've never had issues. I think if we're smart about it, and most importantly don't abuse it, we'll be able to continue enjoying the riverside for many years to come.

At the end of the day, I'm counting on the fact that neither the zoo nor the city feels that patrolling the riverbanks for random RC'ers is a good investment of their time/money. To that end, let's not give them a reason to change their mind.

If anyone feels there is just too much risk involved, or just not comfortable with this for any reason, please don't hesitate to PM me and we can talk offline.

Otherwise, I look forward to seeing all you ladies Sunday at the hotel parking lot.

-Todd

Yes there should be no problem. The only problem we face now is no public parking down there. So we need to get everyone to responsibly flood them with requests about the funded parks project.

Going in a CR-01 but I believe it's the same size as the scx and wraith. It's the pin that keeps the hub from spinning on the axle.

Ohh you need a wheel hex pin. Are they the same size as the pins used on a berg and a wraith? The ones on my berg are the same size as the ones on my wraith I do believe. And I have a full new set of hexes and pins. I just have to swap them out.
