Saturday 2/9/13 trailing at the zoo

Hey guys, hope all is well. Just wanted to see if anyone would like to join us on Saturday morning for a little trail action at the zoo. Depending upon how many people would like to come out, we could meet at the Hilton on Greystone blvd and then carpool from there. Sorry meeting time will be 9am hopefully by then it won't be so cool, however I am open to anytime if you would like to start earlier. Let me know who's in. Thanks guys hope to see you then!

Wish I could make it! Looks like either overtime at work or myrtle beach!

So I finally dug into my transmission and found 2 problems. First was my output shafts coming loose second was my idler gear flat spotting. Not to mention that a 3rd pinion bites the dust. Now it has eaten a 9, 10, and 11t.

What happened to the built trans you had in there? I believe it was designed to prevent problems such as this.....

BigJon 02-11-2013 05:50 AM

All I had was the gen 3 slipper with a 32p pinion and stock gears. I now have rr gears in it and a beefy top shaft on the way.

Did you find a different pinion?

What kind of servos are you running?

BigJon 02-11-2013 10:06 AM

No that was a 32p 9t pinion. I destroy them. I am going to order a .8 mod 10t pinion.

Traxxas 2075 due to the water proof, affordability and the durability but now not so sure so I believe I will switch to the hitec 645wp. Looking at a savox too but still undecided. What do you recommend in the scx I have a lot of weight in the wheels so it will get a workout.

I just thought of something I remember seeing quite a few pictures being taken out there is there an eta on them?

Duxx 02-11-2013 06:21 PM

Apparently the pics are being hoarded offshore somewhere. I've yet to see pics from the last 2 outings yet there were flashbulbs going off like it was Hollywood Blvd.

The Traxxas 2075 has all plastic gears...hence it WILL fail very quickly in just about any form of rock crawler. They were designed to be run with a servo saver and on a go fast vehicle that typcially doesn't deal with being bound up very often...tires moving fast are much easier to steer than tires with lots of grip moving very slowly.

Getting a "waterproof" servo isn't all that important. I would recommend the Hitec 5645MG at a BARE MINIMUM and realistically if you want one that you can rely on for quite some time I would look into something more like the Hitec 7955TG or the 7954SH. The 7950TH is always my choice...and I understand the price point is up there, but once you buy a high quality servo you'll never go back to the cheaper options. That being said...if I was building a scaler that I planned to dunk on occasion I would shoot for the Hitec 7955TG and spend just a little time with some clear silicone and apply it around the joints in the case, where the wires exit, and just a dab where the servo horn attaches.
