Sweet! Can you comment on the material of construction of the transmission housing?

The transmission housing definitely looks plastic to me. You can even see a nub where it was seemingly cut from a sprue.

The fact of the matter is, China can machine parts and get a finished good to you for cheaper than what a stateside machine shop an even get the material for... I'm not sure if its the same case in Europe, but it's just the problem you face when making finished goods. Sell them as US made for 3x the cost or offer an affordable product for the masses. Just because they are made in China doesn't mean they are bad parts, Chinese manufacturers can and do produce very high-quality parts if that's what you're looking for... we just automatically view China as crap because they do produce some very crappy stuff too.

Yep, It all depends on how much you want to pay for a certain level of quality control and tolerances. Also important is which reputable factories you decide to work with.

Facts.

If people want to complain about Chinese parts they should get rid of their cellphone, computer, tablets, car, motorcycles, planes, trains and pretty much everything else in their life that gets manufactured.

Things made in Taiwan are very different than things made in China.

That's not necessarily true. Both countries can manufacture great products and both countries can produce complete crap.

I've been reaaaaly good and haven't bought a rig or even big ticket parts since November waiting for that just right kit...and here it is!

Even if all I'd ever had for reference of quality machining was wheels I'd still be all over a full offering from SSD

Looks like squid pulled the full chassis pics?

I'm anxious to see the full release and pricing. Might have to buy one of these instead of the element.

Probably, I checked last night after that link got put up and didn't see any new pics. Must have got a ceese and desist

As for the tranny case material I would actually welcome a plastic housing. It might help reduce the weight although aluminum and plastic aren't too far apart weight wise.

EDIT: I just googled Aluminum vs plastic and found that Aluminum typically has a density of 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter while ABS has a density of 1.08 grams per cubic centimeter. So In theory plastic is lighter if the dimensions/volume stay the same.

Good info! I’ve never had a problem with a plastic trans case that wasn’t on a basher, saving weight and costs seems to be a win win here.

And the nice aluminum one is always available for sale if someone is so inclined.

Not just the SSD products but any RC that is produced in China, will the new tariffs effect the price?

The box is made in taiwan and they are forced to put that on the box for customs.
