Default SSD Trail King Radiator/Shroud Servo Cover

I just wanted to make a quick post about this in case some folks dont see this buried deep in my build thread.

Copied from my build thread:
Okay I've got the servo cover polished up enough to upload to Thingiverse (free for you to download and print): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4077303

I made up a coolant overflow to go on the side of the shroud. I didn't plan any means for mounting it so I'll just be gluing it in place. I didn't have any green coolant (only blue) so I used some simple green instead. Its my first time trying out the clear filament and I'm pleased with the results, its not clear like glass but I didn't want that here or even expect it.

There is a hole for the servo wire to come out on the driver side (US) of the cover but not all servos place this wire in the same location so you may need to drill your own hole or modify it to suit your particular servo.

This likely looks best when paired with the 25mm engine spacer from SSD, otherwise it may be a bit high with the engine in the stock and 13mm location.

I used an 18 awg wire as the overflow pipe stripping the ends so I could slide the wire portion into the radiator cap and overflow lid (and glue them).
I used a vacuum hose from a car as the upper rad hose (4mm ID 7.75 OD).

To mount this all you need is two m3 x 10mm screws to replace the front servo mount screws.

More info in my build thread HumboldtEF's LC70 SSD Trail King

It's things like this that lead me, more & more, to wanting a 3D printer. GREAT job.

Something about that wording just send so wrong. I realize tomorrow is "next year", but saying it that way is just 'funny'.

I haven't regretted it, its been an extremely useful tool in ways I didn't even expect.

Very nice additions you have come up with. I really need to buy a 3d printer.

I downloaded it, but haven't printed it yet. I'm not sure how I want to orient it on the bed.

3D printers go hand in hand in RC. You can use them for many things, but I think they are perfect for making your own RC parts!

I oriented it with the fan end down, but yeah the design doesn't lend itself to having a perfect way to orient it.

That's probably what I'd do. Getting supports out of the inside probably is tough though.

Nicely done Sir! Now I need to make a vehicle that's water cooled. All of my recent ones have air-cooled engines.

My prints were pretty easy to clean up but I'm sure every printer is different.

I think we have the same printer. I got a Prusa i3 MK3S about two weeks ago.

Just to post a quick little update and say thanks again.

I don't have any pics handy but I've got mine printed and it turned out perfectly. A little bit of sanding and some painting she'll be good to go..

just for reference if anyone is wondering I printed it on a Prusa MK3 in the "stock" orientation (standing vertically) and the supports were really easy to clean up. Used a .15 layer and 20% infill.

Just printing the overflow tank in clear now..

Nice, I didn't test out printing it standing up after I added the mounts so thats good to know it worked out.

As you would guess there was a lot of support material but it all came off cleanly. It's a well designed part that prints very nicely. Fits perfectly in my rig as well.

I just finished sanding and putting the first coat of paint on it. I still have to detail it out (fan blades, caps, fins etc) but I'll post some progress pics when I have something worth showing.

Incidentally - Are you working on PS Pump/Alternator/Water Pump? Just asking because if you're not I'd be happy to share mine with you once they're dialed in.

I stopped with the engine details so no I dont have any other accessories.
I felt like I was going to get carried away with too many details if I continued down that route.

If you wanted to share your designs I'd be very interested. Thanks for the offer

I fear I may have started down that path you so wisely stayed off of, the path of becoming ridiculously (over?)detailed..

I'm close to finished the PS pump, water pump, alternator and main pulley. Got your radiator/fan in paint right now, battery is standing by and I'm making plans for rad hoses and plug wires.

The only left is exhaust and a brake cylinder but I think I've hit the wall..

I'll pm for your email once I've got these designs ready for sharing..

I worked up some headers already, the hard part is the rest of the exhaust and where to route it. I've been meaning to share those too but thought I could come up with a more complete package (which I've struck out on). so I may try to post those up soon.

Thanks again for the offer to share your designs.

EDIT here's the headers https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4189347
