Finally getting to that engine build.

Thinking I'm going to go for a 572 BB look.

Still need to do a better detailing of some of the block parts. also going to add the side soft plugs for more scale look.

So Far, my Redneck stuffs a Blazer on a 2500 HD frame is shaping up well me thinks.

I think you want a 572?
It should look good, but pop for aluminum heads they flow better!

ah yes. the ever loved fat fingers. lol I considered painting the heads this spatz chrome which I may still do before I put the valve covers on.

Timmahh 01-13-2022 11:19 AM

Re: Finally getting to that motor build.

Details Details Details.

Heads are done with Spatz chrome for that aluminum head look.
Tappet covers were hit with the same, left to dry, then sprayed with gloss black followed up with a quick wipe across the top of the fins to expose the spatz for that anodized and milled tappet cover look. Need to make up the tappet badges and get them in place. Like how this turned out.
Next up were the copper gaskets. Every engine needs its copper gaskets. lol. Hoping the sides are a little exposed once the other parts are in place.
Exhaust and Timing Chain Cover.
Headbolts are done in brass as are the intake and goose neck bolts.
Also have the carb and carb bolts done in brass.
And finally the Torque coverter/Tranny housing was also done in spats for that aluminum look while the bolts to mount it were also painted for that brass bolt look.
Moving along.

Thanks for the aluminum heads suggestion Mikemce. You're right on the better flow.

Next up will be the carb linkages and spark plugs.
And finally, get the soft plugs put in on the sides of the blocks accordingly.

Timmahh 01-13-2022 03:24 PM

Re: Finally getting to that motor build.

Soft plugs in the block or done.

Drilled holes. used my Sharpie to mark up the inside of the hole and the lip of the plug, and then used adheavise backed aluminum tape on the inside.
Turned out great I think.

had to touch up where i hit the block with the sharpie and then went back and redid the hole edges to give it a more clean look than shown.

Re: Finally getting to that motor build.

Ran the fuel lines and carb linkage and left the cable free to feed into the interior.
Also installed the air filter setup. Need to make or print a fuel pump and the rest of the front end parts, water pump, pullies, alternator, etc.
Also need to make the 572 badging for the valve covers get them painted and installed.

Few Steps Closer.

Still need to do plugs and plug wires, which will probably be the next venture I take on this engine build along with the 572 badging.

I found some 3d prints on thingiverse that are 1/10th v8 chevys and have the waterpump and fuel pump etc I may try to print and scale up/down as needed.
But moving forward still. May take me a minute to 'get to it', but once I do, I try to be like a dog on a fresh hambone. lol

Got Plugs?

Iridiums made detailed and installed.
Let them dry till Monday when some black shrink tube arrives and I can get to the plug wires.

Re: Finally getting to that motor build.

Better recheck your plugs, those look more like turbo plugs, not for straight fuel injection!

Waiting for them to get dried up, then I'll be able to adjust them a smidge before I put the plug wires on.

Gotcha, they would work well with ethanol, just need bigger injectors.
After all you got the fancy billet heads!

Wires and boots done.
Probably get them installed tomorrow.

3D printing items is on the docket now.
have a few things but not happy with a few others and need to learn CAD so I can make them better.
Maybe a few before I can get to another update.

Thanks. Its getting there.
Can't drop in an engine without a cherry picker.

Nice work! I didn't have the patience for a show quality paint job on my TK it definitely takes more effort, I just weathered mine.

Ya, painting can be a fiddlybits part. Patients certainly helps.
Thanks.

Even though the exhaust port pattern will never let it get away with being a BB, nice work and great attention to detail!

Ya, it is one detail that will need to be overlooked to capture the 572 feel..

Thanks. Once I can get better with CAD I'll make up more front end parts. right now, I'm a bit busy, but need to get the waterpump designed to fit.
