Hard body jeep on the SSD

I have built the chassis already, working on fitting the body. Using the hard body from Aliexpress. I want to make the hood open but not sure I can yet. If I do that I may change the engine to the 4.0 6 cylinder. Trying to decide whether to cut the sliders to fit or make some. I have the body down low enough, I may heat the center console and push it a little higher. Waiting for bumpers before making body mounts. Also waiting for the motor so I can finish the trans and mount it, only want to do it once. I also got the overdrive aluminum tcase.
Has anyone else done one of these bodies? Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Hard body jeep on the SSD

I put the RC4WD Blazer body on my TK kit. using a semi different mounting method. the Blazer body has 2 holes in the rear for body posts so I cut a few down to size and mounted them directly to the chassis where they fit right in the holes keeping the rear end square on the back of the chassis.
In the front, I am doing it differently and using a small part on the body that protrudes forward in the center and pinching that between the bumper mount and a piece of metal using a couple screws. just have to loosen the 2 front screws and can lift the body up some, or also remove the rear pins on the bed and take the body right off.

front
the metal piece between the screws is not in this pic, but this shows how the center of the blazer body matched up to the screw positions on this bumper mount.

Buddy of mine put the Injora Cherokee body on his 10.2 and one good rollover and it cracked, it was a lil chilly out at 50*f, but not that cold.
So far so good with my hardbody Blazer....

But this may give you a few ideas on how to mount it.

Thanks for the info, I had looked at your build thread before, nice Blazer. Hopefully I can keep the rubber side down, LOL. I do not plan on wheeling it too hard, more of a trail rig. I have several other rigs to beat on.

Re: Hard body jeep on the SSD

More test fitting, got the bumpers installed. Changed the wheels and tires to more of a scale size. Got the grumper grill and hood vent installed. Installed the servo, had to make some adjustments because I added a 1/4” to the front links for a better fit with the body. I want to get all the mods to the body done before paint. Still looking at the possibility of making the hood open, a lot of things mount to the hood and there will be minimal support of the front once it is cut loose. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...492459d399.jpg

I went for it and cut the hood open, now to reinforce the front. Going to glue the fenders on which will help. Make some fenderwells attached to the body also. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3ea72a1372.jpg

This is my TK Jeep from a few months ago.

I've since put 1.9 tires on 2.2 black wheels and it looks a bit better, but no pics yet.

That looks awesome Ots. Now you need a driver. [emoji51] I picked up a few for this build at a thrift store, have to decide which one fits best.

Got the hood hinges built. Working on the fenderwells. Will not be true to a 1 to 1 under the hood. Cannot get a V6 that would have come with it, may end up with an LS or leave the 350. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c148f55823.jpg

Inner fenders in, next trim them up. Then work on some rears. Everything that gets added gets in the way of something else, the inner fenders leave little room for the headlights I wanted to use. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...415eb6c069.jpg

Inner fenders trimmed up. Test fit with the scale engine and mocking up a radiator shroud to hide the servo. Had too put the parts together for a progress pic. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f50d7437da.jpg

I'm about to update my TK thread with inner fenders to update and here you are doing the same! Looks like your Jeep is coming along smoothly!

Re: Hard body jeep on the SSD

First time doing a full scale build with a hard body. The inner fenders sure help make it look more realistic. Do you have a build thread?

Re: Hard body jeep on the SSD

I keep finding more things to add or do to make things work. I built a header for one side, will do the other side soon.Needed room for them to fit so I made new shock towers. Built a radiator top and a fan shroud to hide the servo. Extended the footwells so the driver and passenger would fit better.

Yeah this is gonna look pretty scale to a T. That rad/fan shroud is a neat idea.

Re: Hard body jeep on the SSD

It will be scale detailed but not correct for a jeep under the hood. Oh well it is just heavily modified. Have to work with what I have.

What can you say, you found a nice deal on a chassis and it happened to come with a V8 lol.

Made a few more parts today. Brake booster, battery and the header. Also cut a piece for the firewall, no pics of it yet. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7ce0ea60ff.jpg
