I have started on the conversion to turn the berg into a outlaw. So far I have got all the long tubes. I also got my 3.2 Nova's ark dual stage foams today, I also got some 9t pinions, so hopefully I will have enough gear down.

Racers Edge futaba servo horns
Dual or triple MKS HV300 servos

Custom DX6i pistol
Twin FXR

Wheels are gonna be SICK! Whats the width hex to hex?

Aussie Nerd 02-03-2010 09:57 PM

Just round 10inchs I believe, so about the size of a medium bully. Yeah I can't wait to get the wheels, they are getting cut tomorrow I believe, then off for anodize, so hopefully I'll have them to me in a couple weeks.

Are they gonna be as narrow as possible like Jason's? His V1s are about an inch wider and it looks like he will still have problems with the tires hitting the shocks and links.

Aussie Nerd 02-03-2010 10:33 PM

Nah they have about a zero offset, the hex pocket is about .48 back from the back of the ring.

Look at page 10 of this manual. I am not seeing how this fits but don't have an axle to look at either. Might be an option to help your gearing?

The problem is, motor clearance when it is a full lock is already a problem, adding more width is going to make it worse. It is a good idea in principle though, but for now I'll just have to hope the 9ts hold up.

Here are some VERY early mockups. So far it should be about a 16" wheel base with a 12.2" track width. Keep in mind that the foams don't accurately represent the final width and height of the tires. Also the chassis may not be final.

I have a few ideas to deal with the gearcase being in the way, 1 of them might work.
  • Plan A is making offset axle tubes and CVD's on your own. I'm not sure if you know anybody who can help you with that.
  • Plan A and 3/4 would be to use a v1 long side to help offset the axle. That depends on the parts being interchangeable.
  • Plan B is adjusting the offset on your Eritex wheels if that's possible,.I know you can do that on the Rockers, and I'm assuming for the price you're paying for custom wheels you can do it too.
  • Plan C would be to run smaller tires. Like a 3.0 size stretched over your wheels.
I hope that helps.

I was think about getting some custom gear housings made, but I think it is more bother than it is worth. My hope is that with the narrow tires and rims, and the offset that the tire will actually go 'behind' the motor when steering. Anyway I'll see what happens, thanks for your ideas though"thumbsup"

Kieren's wheels were a hoot to make. I found the test wheel while doing some cleaning at the shop today. For anyone that has been to Eritex knows all about my benches and there ability to eat things:lmao:

Here are a couple shots next to Jason's 3.6 wheels...

lookin good Kieren- I think I have found a second option for the v2 shafts that might be even more affordable. Despite the tire size, anything over a 2.2 will hit the motor bells. or really close anyway. I made some 6 3/4" rovers on my last Super on 3.3 wheels. they would grab the motors. So on the new super I used 4.5" wheels with a 7.75 tall tire that is 2" wide and they just hit in a new spot!! they dont hit till about 49 degrees. I'll get a build thread up right after ecc and u can see for yourself. Keep in mind that is using V1's

Aussie Nerd 04-04-2010 06:00 PM

Yeah not sure, the only thing would be that with tires that tall and the narrow track width of the V2s I would think it would be pretty tipsy?
