Ended up focusing on the 2.2 for a while, but I have recently diverted a little attention back to this project. I am still having some steering design issues, but there really based on time.

I will try to finish the steering this weekend, hopefully.

couple pics to tyd me over

It lives!

Went on its maiden voyage sunday

It was great to see it move under its own power, much still temporary, but I'm getting closer.

My focus at the moment is the dx6i. I got front esc in throttle. I got the rear motor in elevator. I got the front steering in rudder. And the rear steer as aileron. I got the mixing setup for 4wd and dig. Do people do mixes for proportional? How about steering; is there a mix for crab or any of the like. I feel a bit lost with this. Thanks for any help.

When I had my super setup on a twin stick, I had the front axle on the left stick, rear axle on the right. That seemed to work well, I just couldn't keep my thumbs still as I moved around with the radio...

Thanks Jeremy, Thats similar to what I have setup, I've got a mix controlling the esc, I've got dig, proportional and 4wd. Still a little lost on any steering mixing. Maybe I'll figure it out soon.

Got the remaining crossmembers installed in the chassis, stiffened it up real nice.

Working on the left stick mod for the dx6i -not for the faint of heart

Still gotta do

Fix the steering, gotta move those servos
Rewire
Tune suspension

Spent the day working on the steering. Ran into some fitting issues. The fact that I don't have the 65:1 gears, the gear box is shorter. I got concerned that I wouldn't be able to fit the 7980 between the axle and the motor. Actually I was pretty certain. I searched the internet for the 65:1 gears w/ cases; available nowhere

So I decided it must go IN the axle

As you can see I went way into the axle. Deep I was still having problems. I made a servo bracket out of delrin, then made an angled spacer to bring the servo to the proper height and perfect angle. Didn't finish the servo bracket, the drill holes walked a little, will make another this week. The spacer came out great. The angled spacer idea came from Highfly's build.

Yeah, it was the right thing to do. But I do suspect I need to start hunting for some delrin.

Need to head back up to the garage to do more work.

Steering

well, almost...

That was the rear, the front isn't as close, but getting there

Gotta do some "work" on that 7980 tomorrow. Then I'll be able to mount it to the axle. Servo horns are in the mail, hopefully early this week.

And yeah that is a broken drill bit in the right center hole

Finally some progress, it'll be ready by ecc.....barely

Actually I think most of the hard work is over

Nice Wade I wish I had time before ECC to get to your dad's again and turn down my bully tubes and mill my berg cases...

But I still need to finish Arocknid and you need to bring parts by so I can assemble our piecemeal 2.2s rig...

I am glad to see this coming together.

You'll see me soon, ECC is coming up quick. Getting ready to do the "DickyT Special" to my 7980 right now

Thanks Jeremy, it can be hard to juggle the projects and life, but its going to run at ECC My father has a mill, but its very basic; but I'm learning how to use it. I did grab the lubricant after that. It was my only mishap of the day, besides a little blood

Servo horns didn't arrive today; I hate the wait

He has long Robi horns coming They are ordered, just not arrived as of yesterday.

I can't wait until after ECC when we start to give the Super Viper chassis an update

Unfortunately when I ordered, I coudn't find the robi's anywhere(for hitech) so I ordered some Golden Horizons. I really hope they are as durable as the robi's. Bet they're in stock somewhere now

Other than the horns, steering front and rear is complete. Both servos are mountedI'm going to get this thing wired up, adjust the front shocks and get body panels cut out, then it will probably be ready for ecc.

Still gotta finish the mod of the 6i

I used the Golden Horizon servo horn when I first built my Viper. It never let me down, but it isn't as beefy as the Robitronic. Hopefully they hold up well for you.
