| Mad Torque, question for recent (say last month) purchasers
Hello, A buddy of mine purchased the Mad Torque and showed it off to me as we were doing checking out some 1/8 tires for a race. Anyway, I really liked how it looked for the money, especially as his came with a set of lights and all hex hardware. Looking at the website for it however and contacting there customer sales reps they said it doesn't come with the lighting kit? Anyway, anyone else here recently purchase one and have it come with a lighting kit? If so, what version did you buy? (RTR or ARR). I am toying with the idea of picking one up to just fun around with, nothing way out there (hence why I like the price) as that usually goes into my racing 1/8 buggy and short course. But from what I have seen, it looks like fun to slow down. Anyway, I appreciate any info you can provide and will read up on the specific threads, just figured this was a specific question, apologize before hand if this common knowledge. |

I got mine right before my join date and it did not come with a light kit. That being said, it's worth it to order one wether they come with one or not, they're a great platform. Also light setups are easy to make yourself.

Thanks. My buddy feels pretty stoked now lol about the lighting kit. I guess the question I would have to build on this, is the Mad stone or whatever it is called better than the Mad Torque and why? Again, this woudl be pretty much a play truck here. And still toying with the idea as I do have this 1/5 scale 4x4 savage to play with too lol. |

You want the mad tourque! The mad stone has plastics gears, with it being a super, you want metal, plus it's cheaper! | |

Mad torque all day everyday, also order a few small 3rds for spares cause you'll probably need them.

My Mad Torque arrived today. I unboxed it to find lights attached all around the chassis. They are white and plugged into the receiver. I'm on the fence if I will leave them on.

It's the 12t gear set. I broke 3 of them before I went to berg stuff.

I received my torque two weeks ago right before they went out of stock and it surprised Me with the light kit installed... and I think it is fully worth the $ so much fun stock. Just relocate the shocks to the outside of the chassis and up to the top mount where the cross brace is (swap the brace to the oldshock location) and you can tear up some serious lines. The plastic knuckles. Will go and I am trusting What I've read and waiting for my new ax 10 versions. Oh andy I purchased the rtr version straight from rxnitro.com

Bringing up an old thread. I recalled reading this researching the Mad Torque. I picked up an ARTR from Hero-RC through Amazon.com and it came with the LED light kit. At first I thought it was kind of goofy looking at took them off. The wire size and LED shape almost looks like someone snipped off part of a string of Christmas lights. I just threw them back on and installed them ina way that directed the lights down and forward/backwards to illuminate the ground so my son and I could crawl at night. Works pretty good. Think I'll add a switch so I can turn them on and off as needed. |

I bought 4 recently and they all come with lights now even though the site doesn't say. Buy extra steering knuckles if you dont want to upgrade to axial ax10 knuckles, at least one trans housing for the upper suspension link mount. They get loose and crack. Buy extra body clips as they spring into oblivion when rubbing on a rock. Get extra axle housings as where the axle tube and knuckle screw together the factory likes to strip those and when you change knucles the threads will come right out with the screw. Replace the hub set screw/pin with traxxas 5189 save a lot of headache. Buy an extra bumper mount if you want a skid plate in the rear. Make sure to raise the lower shock mounts otherwise the motor leads will rub on the susp. I also just found out today that the receiver is only putting out 5.5v so a bec is in order for higher torque servos.

I ordered my orange one RTR because it was cheaper than ordering an ARTR and receiver to bind my Spektrum DX2E. When I got it had lights installed, took me like 4 minutes to remove them have never used them. Lights or no lights, this thing is a blast, very rugged, I have gone through some nasty areas that would have stopped a smaller crawler with maybe just a little scratch on the bottom, nothing has broken, the plastic seems very hard and solid. I never used the stock Nimh battery or charger (sold them already), have just run 2s lipos. It is lighter than the Maxstone8, plus it comes with metal gears. The maxstone8 has 4 wheel steer (I'm not interested in that) but you can install the 4ws kit on the Mad Torque too; the links and rod ends kit is $7, plus a "Y" harness that is like $3 and you buy whatever servo you want. Or get a good servo for the front and move the stock servo to the rear. Outboard the upper shock mounts so the whole shock moves a bit out and gives the motor leads more room and no rubbing. I zip tied all the wires tighter the the links and chassis. You will need a couple washers behind the batt. holder studs to fit hard case lipos. I cut mid size teeth in the stock tire foams (was lazy to get new foam and redo it all) and it improved a lot the bite and softness of the tires. I liked the looks better too, since the Maxstone8 comes with a squarish body and only in green. Very happy with it, would buy it again. Last edited by 2WheelFlyer; 02-25-2014 at 08:24 PM. |
