Default My first attempt at Superclass

Hi

Having built mainly scale crawlers in the past, I kinda was a little tired of focusing mostly on the looks of a crawler instead of its performance.

Aquiring a tuned Axial Wraith recently, I somewhat got the liking for a crawler with better performance than a scaler.

And because I like the way those Superclass crawlers look, I decided I want one.

Of course, there are no kits or such available and you normally need to be good at machining your own parts, so I was in a little dilema. Where to get what I want...?

Fortunatelly we have a few Superclass Comp drivers here in Europe and since they are constantly improving their cars, I was able to get a bunch of used parts for reasonable prices from them (It is maybe important to mention that I have no intention to drive at comps, I simply wanted to have one to drive for my own pleasure. Therefore, my budget for this project is somewhat limited...).

From all the parts I got, I managed to put together a rolling chassis:

It consits of a featherweight carbon chassis, professionally crafted by one of Europe's best drivers. Good for me, he abandond the chassis for another one, so I could have it...
The axles are Super Bully XLDs 65:1, since I didn't want to go too wide.
Wheels are Losi Bossclaws on Highfly aluminum rims.

I also got another set of wheels:

These are Rovers on HPI Blast rims.

As you can see, there are still a lot of parts missing, so it'll take a while till this rig will finally have its first test-drive.
I've ordered some 5 and 6mm titanium rod for the steering rods and maybe use 6mm rods to replace the lower POM links. The upper links are already titanium ones.
I'm also not sure if I'll keep the shocks, but for the beginning, they should be O.K.

To be continued...

It seems that no one here seem so care much..., but I'll continue anyway...

Got the Titanium rods and hope to get the M4 threads turned next week.
In the meantime I received the motors I have ordered. These are two Ansmann ROXX 50x2T which alre supposedly good motors for a low price ($20.00 a piece). I will mount them later today.

But I'm still not sure how to mount the servos on my XLD axles and am looking for ideas. Can you give me some examples on how to mount them most effeciently without modifying the axle housings?
Also, would you recommend two servos on the rear axle or do you think, one will do with XLDs?

Supers are the most fun I think, more to control and makes you think more when you drive them. Plus you actually have to build stuff instead of just buy and bolt on. I've never ran bullys on a super but I have seen quite a few threads in here that have good pics on how to mount servos. Just cruise through a few threads and you'll get lots of ideas.

Made some servo mounts from CFK material.

But I'm still waiting for those darn titanium steering rods to come back from the shop...

Got my knuckle weights today...

Bought them from a friend.

My titanium steering rods are supposed to come Monday. Let's hope, that's true...

Well,

got two of the titanium steering rods today...
but I still need two short ones and they messed them up...

So I found a guy in a german usergroup who offered to turn them for me. He'll also make some 6mm titanium links for me, so I can replace those ugly and cumbersome delrin ones.
That'll take another one or two weeks, so I guess, I'll just have to be a little more patient...

In the meantime, I made a battery mount:

Nice start Tom, you'll love it when you get it going .
It is a whole differant world than 1/10th scale rigs.
