Default Re: Tom G's Super Berg Build

Final decided to take the plunge and build a Super (winter project). Since I have zero experience with chassis in this class opted to save time, materials, and frustration and buy one for the first trip out of the barrel.

So here we go after a few

Chaotic Super Switch Bodiless Carbon Fiber Chassis
Dual FXR ECS and 3 Castel BECís one per servo
Dual Servos, Hitec 7980's on the front 1 7980 on the rear
Super Bully Comp. Axles (because I had them laying around and not enough parts or cash on hand for Bergís) those will come later in Ver.2( Bully's will also need to go on a diet! and be tweaked for more steering angle)
My modified Big bore shocks & Losi spring's
Brood motorís matched pair of Vapor wit da wrks TNX eddie O
Titanium 4 links by me. Rears are done still prototyping the fronts (with coat hanger LOL to cheap to waist Ti.) more Ti. material should arrive here soon
Futaba 4PK-R RX/tx
Carbon Fiber wheelís as soon as I get time to write the CNC program.

I've made some progress in the SUPER fab. dept.

Attachment 270631

Spent last Sat. night ( total spaced there was a Comp. on Sunday DAAAAA )programing and machining the carbon fiber wheels and Delrin bead locks. Copied my plagiarized Dlux 2.2 wheels and re-dimensioned them to 40 series. dia's X 1-1/4 wide

All the Ti. 4 links ,shock's ,steering linkages are basically done. Wheel base turned out 17-7/8's fully compressed, the belly height may be a little taller then I anticipated. But that's easy to change 3-7/8s with no tires on the wheels yet

Most of all the parts are on hand? servos, BEC's picked up the Brood motor's from Eddie last week. Pair of 45t Vapors wit-DA works. TNX !!!!! Eddie

Time to fab and SMOKE TEST the electronics
Attachment 270613

All the tire's and double deuce foams 7.25s & 7.75s are here (not sure which set I'll use yet ? )

Built my 1st set of cut-n-shut tires Trencher Sidewall' Rover Treads
Finished dia. 8 1/8
Attachment 270622

The truck is finally finished the skin are some I just thur on while waiting for Michelle at Krawler Koncepts to send the final set. TNX Michelle
Attachment 270623

Tnx to all the Guys @ WARCRC for all there advice and assistance

Looks good.

I'd say lowering would be a good start, get the cog lower.

Can you post some pics of your dual steering up front?

Talking Re: Tom G's 1st Super Bully / Build Ver-2 BERG Finally Finish

Tom Gs Super Ver.2.0 Berg

Finally Finish Ver. 2 Super Berg

Every thing but the Axles is the same. Berg's where my original thought but only had 1 pair of super 300's TNX to Erik Dlux for the second pair & picked up some spears from Rowdy tnx Chris
RC Bro's Tubes and locker / Dlux V.2 knuckles and weights
Replaced the front 7980’s with 7950s servos still a single 7980 in the rear. And switched to 4s Lipo’s
And made some 8 1/4 inch Cut-n-shut Voodoo's

Attachment 289279

Did some thing Different on the Knuckles and weights went with Erik Dlux’s new Ver. 2 just to try something diff.
Attachment 289280

Way more steering then the VP Chubs and high steer Berg knuckles.
( The servo over center has been correct after this pic was taken re programed the EPA's)

Attachment 289281

The BIG difference is the rolling weight lose down to 6 lb.’s 11.0 oz’s from the bully’s 8 lb.’s 5.3 Oz.’s
SWEET!!!!

Attachment 289282

Narrowed the wheels 3/8’s of an inch so the tires and foams will no longer wallow around. After testing with diff. foam density’s I’ll remove the bead locks for another 6 oz weight reduction.

Now I just have to learn how to DRIVE the sill thing LMAO
(Wear can you guys go and get so much entertainment FOR FREE

And TNX to all the Guy's @ WARCRC for there help and advice. Diamond Dave, King Gee, Crash, Cboggs

A few more change's since the last Berg Ver.2 update

Swapped out the stock berg gear cases for some ClassiCutt Custom gear case's much nicer gear mess, a hole bunch quitter and changed to a single Hitech 7980 on both ends.

The 7980 will fit between the motor and RC Bro's axle tube with out any further mods required Nice work Berry

If there are any issue's with servo torque I have a DLUX Servo Strengthener I can add later.

Made some changes to the Super.

Picked up a set of Erik Dlux's new 6 1/4 inch wheel's in black G-10( TNX ERIK) . Spent a couple of hrs making some 8" Sedona's.
Attachment 312083

Attachment 312084

Also machined some knuckle weight's holder out of Delron and CF I may have gone overboard on the number of slugs but you can always remove a few about 11 oz per side ( angle of the weights can be changed with just 2 screws)
Attachment 312085

The main reason for this change is the ability to have the knuckle weights over 1 " lower then the 40 series wheel which really lowers the truck's C/G

Attachment 312086

Also soon to come is a new YTC Super Agent Chassis TNX to KrawlFreak (Jeremy) since my present Super Switch is just plan worn out and was broken a few weeks ago and has been patches back together

Such a good idea on the clocking of the weight holders...

I got a PM form a dude in TX. asking how I attached the weight holders to the Dlux knuckles

Just made these flanged nuts, taped them to 3mm and slide them in the slug holes so now you can use screw to mount the weight holders Hope this help's Ya Randy

TNX Erik
Really liken this combo YA hit a home run .

I'm very happy with there performance so far. The big advantage is the lower CG. On side hills they have really reduced the tenancy to rollover.

Also with the shorter side wall the tires don't roll under as much on tight side hills turns which causes under-steer

Well after shearing the Berg small 2nd & 3rd drive pins for the third time. I've final had enough so decided to get off may butt and do something about it.

A while back Diamond Dave showed me some RC Bros gears that Erik Dlux had enlarged the pin size from 1.5mm to 2mm so thought what the HAY, Id give it a try on some Lighted RC4WD gears (Since the aforementioned Bros gears are out of stock)

Spent a little time making a fixture to hold the gears and jumped in. Found some 2mm X 14mm hardened dowel pins at McMasters
Attachment 312636

Attachment 312637
The 1st try was not to successful as they are just hard enough a used standard end mill objected JUST A LITTLE BIT ( no damage)!!! Any who ordered up some 2mm Solid Carbide E mills and drills and WA-LA they cut like butter. Now just waiting to see ware the next week point IS.

While doing some testing today I found the next week link in the Berg gear box and it wasn't breaking the small gear's shaft at the enlarged pin hole like I thought

Striped 3 teeth of the Small 3rd gear.

Attachment 312638
Attachment 312639
I guess I'll no longer try to flip the truck back upright by full forward to full reverse. I'll just start doing Rollovers and take the 5 points

I plagiarized Dan's aka King Gee :awsome: idea for a dual mandrel link bender

Since I was sick last weekend and didn't want to get rained on ( big ole wussy that I am )

So spent some time and modified my bender to a the dual mandrel setup in prep for swapping out to my new YTC Super Agent Chassis. TNX Jeremy
Attachment 313386

In addition to the 2" dia. roller also made a 3" & 4" Then wasted a hole Frik-in bunch of aluminum ( cheaper the Ti ) learning how to accomplish the bends and shapes I wanted

I was finally happy with the results so made some 3/16 TI links for the new chassis. The rear lowers will be change to 1/4 TI after some testing
Attachment 313387
Attachment 313388

It sure is sweet being able to make 2 perfectly identical links in 1 operation

With the old 40 series wheels and Super Voodoos it sits at 3 7/8s ride height an 2 7/8s at full squat.
It will get a little taller with the new lager wheels and tires as there an inch bigger in Dia.

Its ALIVE

Ride height 4 1/4
2 3/4 at full squat.

If I could get it a 1/8 inch lower it would drive upside down with out scrapping he cab.

Now it just need's a paint scheme for the skins, a Sunny day for a tuning
session and a driver that knows what he's doing.
