| Super class intro
Hey folks. So I made an intro in the newbie section but haven't gotten any feedback. So I figured I would post here seeing as though this is where I will be spending most of my time. Basically, I was looking for something my son and I could build together and came across these super crawlers and fell in love. I'm pretty handy at building and fabricating but have zero RC background. Anyway. I was going to get the Axial xr10 or the wraith but then I seen the mantis platform. If I go this route do I still need an axial for the chassis? Are parts universal? What should my first move be? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

with no rc background, you might think about buying a set of Berg or XR10 axles and a chassis and build a 2.2 rig. i think you can figure out how to fab the links, mounts and related items from the threads and pics on this site. i'm building a super right now and just about every part is custom or modified. the tires alone took 2 and a half sets of tires and 4 hours each to make. i could never have done this as my first build. glad i bought an rtr for my first rig so i could learn from it while driving and modifying. |

The XR10 was discontinued by Axial a few years ago. You may be able to find one on eBay or when you get clearance to access the For Sale section here, there may be something available. You do realize there is a big difference between an XR10 and a Super, sizewise. |

Nothing, really. Closest would be a 1:5 Maxstone from NitroRCX But I wouldn't call those "good" Last edited by Solitaire; 03-17-2015 at 09:54 PM. Reason: Wrong scale size posted |

If your dead set on building a super. You need to contact Dlux. He can get you anything youd need to build exactly what you want. Now it would be a tough first build but to be honest if you want to build a motor on axle crawler a 2.2 wont be too much different. Except for the tires part that sumquack mentioned earlier. To look at dlux parts go to dluxfab.com |

supers are great but they come in different types. you have to know what you want out of yours so that you can build it up to perform to meet those expectations. most of the build threads you will see are for the serious competition super crawlers. light weight, heavily modified axles, specialized wheels and tires, weighted knuckle systems, carbon fiber chassis, etc. 1500.00 to over 2500.00 dollars. or there are off the shelf bashers for 200.00 to 500.00 ready to run or better axles and chassis so you can build your own crawler for around 1000.00 to 1200.00. it is all up to what you want to do and the effort you want to put into the hobby stock or modified axles buy or make chassis buy or make links shock absorbers buy wheels and tires - how esoteric do you want to get here? usually front and rear steering so need 2 x servos and steering links 2 x motors and 2 x escs don't forget the pinions transmitter with at least 4 channels and matching receiver batteries and charger tons of screws, wire, battery connectors, and motor connectors, tools a suggestion: 1/8 mad torque rtr crawler. comes ready to run. play with it. start modifying it change out the chassis, links, add 4 wheel steering. good learning experience and not too expensive. if the bug really bites big you will then know more what you want. |

As determined as I am to build a super, I know experience with these is a must. And I appreciate everyone's honesty. I think fabbing all the parts would be a blast but afraid the lad may loose interest if it takes too long. I hadn't heard of the mad torque before but I checked it out and was pretty impressed with how well equipped it is out of the box. ThIs will be a good starting point for now. |
