Default The Whore - A Superjuice Berg

I picked this up from Bob (Solitaire) yesterday.

This super has been around the block up here in the PNW.

Originally built by Dan (KingGee), then sold to Mike (hooter), then Bob (Solitaire) bought it, Randy (mammoth) drove it at worlds, and now I own it.

Parts lists:
Y-town super juice carbon fiber chassis
Krawler koncepts skins
Stock Berg Cases
Super 300 CVDs
RC4WD gears
Custom titanium links
Big Bore shocks
Dlux link mounts
Boss Claw tires
Custom Aluminum Wheels
Knuckle weights
VP 8* c-hubs & knuckles in front.
VP 0* knuckles & HR C-Hubs in back.
VP Hubs
2 - 7980 Hitec servos
Holmes Dual Mini BRs
2 castle BEC
Custom Brood motors

Only thing needed to get it running was a new battery mount (Randy broke it at worlds ) and Bob never really made a new one.

On the work bench for a new battery mount, damn thing takes up like half the table.

I was going to use the DLux berg battery mount, but the axle is clocked too much for that to work.

Plan B
I'm good with Lexan!

Fabbed a simple lexan plate to mount to the upper links, I plan on eventually making something that mounts on the axle, but this will do for now.

Installed:

I've since re-zip tied it so the zip tie heads are facing away from the battery.

I plan to eventually get some new skins for it. I'm not that big of a fan of the current ones (though everyone else seems to like them).

I am too. Try and get the hang of this truck!

After a long struggle I was able to get the programming all set on the 4PK. I was having issues getting it to burn. I finally figured out to turn the front motor odd you have to set a second condition switch. So it's all ready to rock and roll!

This is how I had to set it up to work:

Managed to figure out the radio settings last night so I don't have to use the second condition!

Went out for an evening practice session with Tom G and took a couple of pics:

Couple pics of Tom's whip:

Glad you got it figured out, Scott. That beast looks right at home there on Mount Erie. Matter of fact, it was there that Mike ran his first comp with it.

Good luck at Cle Elum this weekend. I'm a bit miffed I can't make it.

It was not loose end bell screws that caused the issue

Couple pics of the supers at the comp Saturday:

Managed a 5th place finish.

Not bad for my first comp with the truck. Had a couple of stupid penalties. Hit gate 10 on one course because I swung the rear wheel the wrong way. Went through a gate backwards because I didn't want to take a reverse

Truck works great, and super is a ton of fun!

But now that the comp is over, it is time for some maintenance. I like to strip any rig I buy used completely down, clean it and rebuild it. I just didn't have the time to do that before this comp.

Started with the rear axle:

Look it's red dirt from worlds;

Gear box looks like it could use a good cleaning:

Gear box apart:

Onto the front axle:

What's this:

Found an extra screw in the front gear box

As I pulled out the 2nd and 3rd gears, a screw fell out. I looked at everywhere a screw could be and there was no missing screws. Weird

My conclusion is since this screw is covered in grease and looks like it has been sitting in the case behind the second gear.

Appears to have been a motor screw that magnets of the motor held in place behind the second in grease.

I guess that is a testament to how strong the motors are, also super lucky that the screw didn't wreak havoc on the gears.

Chassis and links have been regulated to the shelf.

Then last night I took the tubes off the cases:

Got it to this:

Threw them in this:

And after the bath:

Gears are soaking in WD-40 rust preventive.

Motors are ready to be sent off to Brood for a rebuild.

Gear boxes should be back together today or tomorrow.

Gotta wait a little while till it is fully back together since I'm getting the motors rebuilt.

Going to just drop off the rigs for a full wash and wax?

Thanks! It was pretty greasy, but nothing the ultrasonic couldn't handle. They're nice and clean now.

Started putting it all back together, it's amazing how out of alignment those 4 link mounts can get if you don't pay attention.

Not sure I'll have any time tonight to work on it more though.

What I got done when I was home for dinner.

Decided to start with the rear case/tubes:

Old hardware going bye bye:

Grabbed this box and another one for fresh hardware:

Tubes attached:

Pulled out the front tubes and case:

I got those attached as well, but forgot to take photos.

Rears all ready for bearings and gears:

Getting the upper link mounts to line up was a bit of a trick. Crazy how much they can shift depending on which screw you tighten first.

Fronts ready as well:

Bearings:

Installed:

Gears:

Of course I forgot to take an assembled picture again...

Knuckles need to be cleaned:

And pop those bearings out, these knuckles don't have those nice little slots for tapping the bearing out.

Axles back together:

Finally got the bearings popped out of the rear knuckles.

Pretty much at a standstill now until I get the motors rebuilt and my bearing order in.

Got my bearings a few weeks back:

Hardly took any pics putting the knuckles on, I have just this picture of knuckle weights:

And this random photo of one of the wheels next to a 2.2 wheel/tire.

Also got my motors back and those were installed.

Pretty much back up and running. Just haven't put the RX back in. Still probably going to do some wiring clean up before the next comp.

If it was just a regular event I'd probably do that. But not for our big events.
