Default A little to much lacquer thinner build...

Im a bit crazy. Just a tad. But i decided to build another super. I built one with xr10 axles back in 2012... Now its time to build one with a set of losi night crawler axles.

Here is the plan for this slow and painful build.

-2.2s blackjack rcp chassis with custom skid.

-ar60 longside unis. stainless 8mm tubes. 3d printed link mounts and chub mounts.

-3d printed lnc housing centers.

-custom skid infused transfer case.

-moa axle kit for the front. CUSTOM built.

So.. It will have dig. 4ws. And a very light footprint for a super. Im speculating after im done with it.. It might weigh in at 4.5 pounds rtr. I could dump the 4ws and shave a bit of weight.. But this is a for fun build. Gotta have it all.

Mid motor moa? Mid motor super moa? Alien? Halfbreed? Call it what you want. Im a bit nuts.

This is all i have for it now. Besides the materials for custom parts not pictured.

Extra plan. Rear cantilever setup.

Challenging = crazy?

Looks ambitious for sure.

Small update!

I suspect from tube end to tube end it will be 9.25in after i turn the ends flat on the inside. The fun part will be link and shock mounts... They will have to slide on the the ar60 tubes before i install them on the losi housing. I will probably think about keeping the inner most tabs on the housings for the support of a secret part for the front axle. The rear axle i may chop. Depends on if i decide to go an outside route for ud.. Damn. That almost gives it away.

Enjoy!.

85mm long cut faced and drilled ar60 tubes almost right on the money!

Id like to use a set of dlux bamf shafts but they need to be turned down. For now.. Im might run a stress test with a wraith short side uni on the bench to see if i can break or strip the weld i add to it. If they dont break, ill run bamf shafts in the front and ar60 longsides in the rear.

This is the new layout im also going to attempt with the servo. Id like to use the flat stock ar60 link mounts for electronics plates on the front axle. Ill also be making a clamp style mount off the front motor for battery holdage.

Time to start thinking about knuckles, chubs, and hubs to get my width right. Onto some pics.

2.2s is finished. Ill be working more on this this upcoming week. Going to be working on the motor/ servo mount. Then the rear will get just a servo mount.

Anybody got link placement tips? Super builds are not my forte. And this rig will be aboult 4.5lbs running status without weights.

just a note for me/ a little info for the future.

dlux builder shafts 7mm od main shaft

losi stock housing, 6mm id...

ill be adding some material to a ar60 short side shaft and do some testing. if the testing works, ill still probably go dlux in the front. just need to spin the shafts in the lathe down to 5mm... if I can.

Wow im slow. I got all 4 ar60 longside tubes drilled out. I will be trying to make some tubes myself. I just need to get the chub ends right. (Shapeways)

The welding after the bearing issue.... Ive actually though about using bushings instead. Well... With a bearing. I just need to figure out what parts i can find and use.

The bushings would have loctite 609 holding them on the stock ar60 shafts.

Next bug of buisness.. It would just be the same price if i went with the builders bamf shafts from dlux. Lathe.. Or weld? Tis the question.

oi those pics are terrible.. ive managed to get some stuff sketched up for tube testing. so ive got 2 "c hub" blanks to see what one fits tighter on the tubes I have at home.

once I figure that out and my skid shows up.. I can actually start planning the rest of the axle work on the front and back. I will not be using any bolt on link mounts for these axles. these tubes will be strong enough at the integrated link mounts. if I ever break a tube.. it might be like 15 bucks shipped to me.

waiting on a skid so far. also waiting on a possible test subject for the transmission it involves an xr10 front trans shaft.. and some other 3d printed parts. the motors I might run could possibly be outrunners because of the taller tires. "lower kv"

More terrible pictures.

Anyway, im skipping a few things and going back to the new basics. Think tom foolery or ssdlux but losi and supersized. Ill be using stainless tubes though.

The center sections will be 3d printed as well as the c hub ends. And a few 3d metal pieces will be working the actual magic on this rig.

Skid is in.. Shoulda waited. Im not even going to use a losi trans. I have to design my own. I want the motor to be kinda center forward. Its only going to power 1 gear on the shaft anyway. Gotta make it the same as the front gear setup. Rookie mistake by me.

I made a small goof and skipped a small step for the "ears" of the spool to clear inside the housing. everything is a nice and tight fit. this is my first failed print and not all that bad actually. ill be using the "failed prints" for another project. a 1.9 pro perhaps.

pictures will be edited into this post in a few hours when I get home from work.

also, the pucks for the use of axial tangs inside the losi spool ended up being printed in brass because of the required tolerances for steel on shapeways.

Second picture im pointing at where i goofed. You will understand more when my new housings come in.

Chassis weight with random 5mm bolt to replicate the shafts weight. Also.. Pucks are filed and fitted. Really nice fit with no slop! Another losi axle invention going to be put to the test.

Im pretty excited about this build. Might build a 2.2 pro with a similar axle setup.

Nice work so far. Are you not going to use dig or burn?

Thanks josh. Its going to have front and rear dig. Front and rear steer as well.

I forgot to mention what radio ill be using. But i picked up a mt4 awhile back for all my. Hardcore comp rigs.

This truck is merely an experiment. Its why i chose to build a rig that will be the hardest on parts. A superclass crawler.

I only seen the one motor in the chassis. Is another going on the front axle like the Eritex kit?

Im glad you asked. I have the front axle servo/ motor/ upper link mount in my hands. I havent taken a picture of it yet though because its whit and its as ugly as i designed it still. Lol... Once i shape it a bit (mainly the upper link mount part) ill spray it and post it up.

Front axle minus chubs and dlux knuckles and lower link mounts.

I ordered 2 pairs of dlux knuckles and a set of his super 6 inch wheels in black. Slug style.

I wieghed the front and rear axles with the chasis and motors. Its under 2 lbs. I will also be running a full pound of weights alltogether front and rear. Im just waiting on my knuckles so i can design the weight hangers. Ill be able to add .4oz to each weight. Each ring i have is . 2 oz. I should be able to really fine tune the cg.

Ill add a video to this thread about the front axle in a bit.

Not shabby for having a full size motor bolted up!
