Default Locking pin for axles...what's the trick?

I am almost to the point of having to tear down the axle to do a visual inspection to see why this isn't working. I pulled out the little axle plug, rotataed the driver's rear tire until the axle locking pin drops through. I then I screwed it down until it stops, and backed it off one turn. I then tried to move the tires by spinning the driveline and nothing. i then tried to back it off more and less...all the way from not backed out, to almost all the way backed out. So i thought maybe it was a bit too long, so i shaved it down maybe what would equate to 2 threads. still no change. Any tips before I remove the axle and disassemble entirely?

Ok, I figured it out. The issue was not the non threaded end being too long, it was the threaded end. Since i filed down the non threaded end shorter, i drove that pin in hard and the threaded end cleared the diff housing in drive....drove it further in and it cleared in reverse too. Problem solved. By the way, i am working with the new release HG-P407. Love it. Now i have to put it all back together. I removed the rear axle to get a better view and was almost to the point of full axle housing disassembly haha
