Talking cartronicshn toyato

Hey guys i am starting a very slow build thread on the hg p407, known as the bruiser clone. So far i can report the truck worked flawlessly out of the box, smooth shifting, crappy steering as designed, very quiet tranny. I am going to lock the diffs, change the steering servo to the front of the chassis as my og hilux is. Pics in a bit not much to show just yet.

Nice to see you building and posting. Do you have any upgrades planned or will you keeping it mostly stock?

Putting the OG back to stock is probably a good idea. A local guy did that and turned his OG in to a shelf queen once it was re-issued.

I've been contemplating putting my OG bruiser body and chassis back together with the TLT axles and R2 trans just for sentimental value. It is my oldest build that I still own.

so like always a small update every 3 months, i have driven it around for a while with no breakage, i have removed the middle leaf at each corner to get a little more flex, hex adapters are on their way, and i have one wheel screw stripped and also the grub screw on the front tranny shaft is stripped, i will got to the hardware store and buy one of those stripped screw drill bits and post up later tomorrow......

Stock bearings leave a bit to be desired. Had the rear inner pinion bearing deconstruct after a pack or 2 of run time. Fast Eddy Bruiser bearing kit fixes that but while putting bearings up front one of the knuckle king pin screws stripped the threads out of the housing. One of the knuckles also had interference between the closed inner knuckle and the outer, looks like a bad casting but has somewhat worn in.

I installed the RC4WD 12mm hex conversion. These axles use a different style going into the differential side gears than the Tamiya setup. To do the RC4WD conversion the replacement axle shafts have to be ground flat on 2 sides to go into the differential but the Bruiser side gears fit in the HG diff if you want to stay with a splined axle.

With that, they are probably Okay at best. Steering is pretty limited for crawling and there is a big width difference between front and rear. The narrower front is still a bit too wide for decent "scale" appearance.
