Hi all, I got this crawler off ebay, super clodbuster, org. pimp cane chassis ! (17") new never run moab xl's on on narrowed pro-lines thunder tech widener/adapters upgraded axles/servo mounts axle c braces rc 4wd alumn. lockers and udjustable motor mounts w/9 tooth pinions bearings 1/4 servo mounts and hitec 1/4 servos fairly new 55 turn lathes, traxxas evx, modified tq3 radio for rear steer . It works great, but the front servo died today. I think I tried to run too much voltage through it 8.5v off a lipo. I'm gonna stick with the 6v pack from now on. My question is why don't more people use these 1/4 servos? At 39.00 and 343oz of torque they seem pretty good. Am I missing something? Besides them eating a lot of power? Thanks

I think the main reason is their size and weight . I myself use Hitec 805 1/4 scales . But like you they are on a Cane . I have been thinking about building a 4 link rig . But the way they are mounted , I think the links would hit . I have always had good luck with them . but they do pull the power and I have kill two Castle BECs . :-P

I remember when I first got my Clod 2 years ago I was looking at 1/4 servo's for the MASS pulling power and lower cost... Found that there's some axle brace mounts for Clods and the servo fits just like it would on a std. servo brace mount... I just about got a set for my Clod but someone offered me a geat deal on a trade for a servo and some shocks... I donno why ppl don't use them, either, other than the fact they're HUGE and could get in the way of some chassis'/bodies... >shrug< The wehight shouldn't be an issue as it'd all be on the axle where ya want it...

I loved my 1/4 scale servo on my super clod. I just went back to 2.2 with it and switched back to normal. The only drawbacks are size, and the need for a bec.

thanks for the replies, can I fix this dead one easily? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, The servo is just dead in the water, no nothing, I figured I burned something electronically. Thanks

I also use the 805s on my super, and love them. Pretty big, but I can work around that. It says on the instructions not to run more than 6v through them, but I doubt the actual motor would burn out that easily, more likely something electronical. I've never looked inside one of these servos, so it might be worth taking a look.

the first 1 , I was cranking on both ends ( bound up hard ) let the smoke out . second one , I'm not sure why it had been on the rig about 2 months . I was at GTG and drove the truck 3 feet maybe not even on the rocks yet & it let the smoke out .

I do belive Badd runs his setup @6 volts. I also lost a CC BEC with my 805 servos running @ 6 volts:-( Guys i am here to tell you i have been running 805 servos for over a year and recently made the switch to 5990 hitec servos. There is no comparison. Once you turn the voltage up to around 7.2 volts they are a way stronger and smother servo. They seem to draw way less and run cooler. I still have my son's super running the 805's and as soon as the money is avaliable i am changing his out also. So i should have about 6 805's for sale if anyone needs a few.

Hello I run 2 TS-80 servos on my homemade stick clod wired to a 7.2 volt battery pack..and till now had never heard of a BEC ? What exactly does it do? I searched around abit(not extensively) and couldn't figure it out..I have never had a problem with this setup other than the servos seem to get really hot..was just wondering what the use of it was..Thanks
