good starter chassis?? i currently have a clodbuster with a bunch of add ons, long wheel base, and lots of aluminum parts,. I have a chance to get a clodzilla iv chassis from a friend for about $75. Would this be a good start to get going???backyard crawling only..or would this $75 be a waste of money,.I currently have a sassy chassis that is way outdated and very topheavy. |
also if this is not a good place to start, what are some reasonable places to start with a chassis. |
go for it to see that chassis in action, check out this site: http://www.swami-rc.com/clodcrawling.htm |
Skip it......... |
Well i didnt get a chance to get it anyway, he already sold it. so now i am in the market for a good chassis to get started in the backyard crawling game. I am on a budget so any suggestions? |
Pimp Cane Torsion chassis, its very nice "thumbsup" i would get the 17" and run Moab XL's |
Do you have pics of your current set-up? |
i will get some tomorrow. its basically a stretched clod with a sassy chassis. i know its old. here a a couple of pics that are not very detailed. the second pic is a clod i did back in the 90's with air retracts on the suspension, it is long gone now. the clod i have left is the one on the left http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s64/clods2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../CLODFRAME.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s64/clods2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../CLODFRAME.jpg |
keep a look out at eBay for some Clod chassis "thumbsup" |
would i be better off just sellin the clod and getting an ax10 scorpion? I just want to play around and my local hobby shop is building a rock climbing arena to do some competitions. I may never go to the comps but would go there to play around. |
Can you afford to just keep the clod and start fresh? I have a stock clod and i'm going to try to buy axels so i can keep my clod orginal. |
thats the problem,. i dont have the xtra cash to spend a whole bunch on a complete rebuild. If i could sell the clod and keep my speed control and radio, again i know its old, its a tekin titan speed control. maybe i could put a little with it and buy that scorpion kit, I know its around $230 plus motor and i would already have electronics.??? would i have more than that in building a good crawler out of my clod? |
ok here are some pics of what i have to start with.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/P1020832.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/P1020833.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/P1020834.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/P1020835.jpg again, would i be better off selling this and putting the money towards an actual crawler? |
$50 buys you a Pimp cane shipped. Great chassis at a great price, you really can't beat it. |
ok, so far what i think i will do is start parting my clodbuster out, chassis, links, etc and see how much money i can come up with to invest in a new crawler or build my clod with the pimp cane. If anyone is interested in anything let me know, |
i got from my freind his clod with super duty axels and every thing but tires it has the suspension less chassishttp://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Picture010.jpg |
I pulled out my old clod too. I'm just not too impressed with it. I think it may be parted out soon! Good luck on selling your stuff. I hope you figured out what you want to do! |
yeah, after reading for hours i think i am going to try to sell it and buy an ax10 scorpion. at least that will get me started to see if i am going to like it. a guy at work today said he is looking to buy a clod so i am taking mine in tomorrow to see if he is interested. I have no idea what this thing is worth complete ready to go. any ideas? i see stock ones selling on ebay in the $150 range |
Like Grenius said the Pimp Cane is a great, cheap chassis to begin with. I jst got one recently and I absolutely LOVE it! Right now, I have 4 1/8" of articulation with stock Clodbuster wheels and tires. I think you should buy a Pimp Cane, but that's just me. Quote:

It's hard to say no to a 18in Pimp Cane for the price and performance you get. It's a $50 price tag with $200 performance. |
