Default simple clod (56k warning)

Here are a few picks of the clod I'm working on. I wanted to make a simple rock crawler that worked well. This is what I came up with.
Enjoy

It still needs some work, but it's close

Welcome to the site!

Is that a panhard bar I see?

How about the rod ends on the other side of the bottom skid plate? So, on the top, not the bottom. And maybe weld the bolt to the skid plate, so there's nothing protruding through to get hung up on?

Yes that's a panhard bar.

Those are acorn nuts.

I'm trying to make a teflon center skid. That wll be v haped when looked at from the end. It should smooth out the whole link area.

As in the pic #6.5
IMO weight to a point, helps with traction. Instead of spining tires they bite in more easily.

Your the first person that knew what the suspension was called out of the 100 or so people that have seen it.
You must be a 1:1 scale wheeler too.

Reminds me of a cross dresser. Its a clod that wants to be a shafty

Is there any axle sway, side to side?

The panhard bar is saposed to keep the axle from moving side to side.. That particular suspension setup though should have alot of flex steer and alot of body roll....

Almost finished it today waiting on parts.
I did take it out for a test drive today. It worked great really well. Just the right amoun tof articulation and travel. Need to mount the servos better.
Yes with any panhard bar suspension there is minimal side to side motion as it travals.
Driven in and over this spot.

steering

What stomper said is true but only at speed. The slow stuff it doesn't matter

I've ran through several packs now. The only thing that is odd about the suspension is when the rear is fully compressed and the front is half way. It will jack the front end up under power. IT has to be when the rear is fully compresed or it wont.
One surprising parts is the side hill performance is better than ecpected.
It work way better than my old clodzilla 4 link. That thing had issues.
There is no body roll.
old setup

Revised mount

Over all pic

that is the first time ive ever herd of that panhard suspension setup. looks awsome. i like how you got that servo mounted in that one pic, zip ties, thats almost like using ducktape for everything.

That's a very innovative design you got there! Looks like it should perform quite well with some minor tuning. Take it to a comp and see how it does, then see what you might want to change.

One thing though...how much steering do you get with the axle brackets set up the way they are? Maybe it's just the angle of the pic, but it seems like they would hit the tires/rims :?
