Default 2.2 Semi Scale Clod

I decided it was time to start rounding up some of my unused parts, and putting them to use, and so starts this thread (as well as one for Scrappy the Super: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...84#post1398884).

I'm aiming to build up a semi-scale 2.2 clod reminiscent of my long-since-evolved-into-a-14r truck (The 2.2 Cruiser).

Wheelbase will be roughly 12"-12.5", and will be stretched underneath a HPI Jeep Rubicon Shell.

And so it begins............

Started off by building up the axles: Nothing too fancy here, stock clod plastic bits, bearings, Integy diff spool, and CPE aluminum upper link mounts (very nice...).

Notice the build is partially inspired by Guinness......lol

Chassis will be based on a set of Axial AX10 side plates, paired with a delrin skid.

Wheels are from RPM, have been detailed with some beadlock painting, and are mounted up to some nice RC4wd 2.2 Rock Stompers (with cut foams).

This will be a relatively slow build, as I'm pretty short on time......but I hope to have it together in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned...........

Well, I managed to turn this "relatively slow build" into a fairly quick one as a result of ending up with most of my day free.

Started off by cutting and mounting the Delrin skid. I was originally going to use a longer one, but I think this truck will be destined to use a small LiPo instead of a 6 cell sub-C pack.

Added on the other side plate, and used some spare Savage hardware to make some cross members:

Fabbed up some links using 6/32 allthread and 1/4" x 0.49 aluminum tubing. Traxxas ball ends round out the equation.

With a bit of imagination you can start to see it taking shape..........

Toss a set of Integy adjustable motor mounts and RC4wd 8t long pinions into the mix......

And with the addition of some good 'ol silver cans..........you have a fairly complete looking axle.

Front end gets the same treatment, plus a shiny Integy Servo Mount.......

Next up..........droop suspension!

Integy front Steering links make the front end a bit prettier...........

As is standard with most 2.2's, this truck will be front-steer-only.

Shocks are from an AX10 Scorpion with internal springs.

Links are now finished up and mounted.

Front Servo is a TowerPro 945MG (~220oz/in torque).

With the tires mounted up, it sits with a 12.25" wheelbase, and a svelte 3 3/8" center clearance:

I think it looks pretty good so far!

Build a small shelf up front for the receiver and ESC.

Mocked up body post locations also.

Body posts are one, and the body has been trimmed and drilled to fit.

I think it looks pretty slick!

I decided when I started this build, that the truck would end up being sold. The closer it gets to being done, though, the more I almost want to keep it.......

Take two 1/4" steel collars (look in the airplane or hardware section of your LHS), and place a 1/4" electrical clip (avaialble at hardware stores) between them. Very easy, very cheap, and no fabbing required.

I am trying to clear out a bunch of my RC stuff that doesn't get used a lot, and I don't really have much of a use for this rig right now. It's a great truck, I just don't want to see it spend it's time sitting on a shelf unused.
