Default New To The Super Scene. Got A Question

I have been running a axial 2.2 crawler for a few months and have had a blast with it. I never was much interested in building a super because no one in my area runs them. However, things change. I just scored a super crawler in a trade i couldn't pass up. It has the following:

Hustler Chassis
rc4wd raptor axles
Novak Rooster Crawler ESC
Integy 65t
Pro-Line Moabs
Narrow Axial Wheels
Hitec Servos

The rig has some nice stuff in it but, putting it politely it was poorly assembled with many shortcuts. I am going to tear it down and repair all the stuff thats wrong. My question is: If you have to choose only one, which would you rather have? dig or independent control of the rear steer.
I know it would be ideal to have both but i only have one esc and using my DX3r i can only do one or the other. Im gonna see if this class takes off before i drop $$$ on a 4+ channel radio.

I personally would rather have dig than rear steer.

I have 4ws and wish I woulda went dig. Alot sharper turns no matter how good your 4ws system is.

4ws for sure. A super with no rear steer would suck!

If the wheelbase is 15" or up 4ws under 15" dig it baby , having run both 15" and up with dig seems to just drag the ass end around , not enough weight transfer over the wheelbase length for dig to work as well as 4ws. 14.75" and under weight transfer is optimized enabling dig to turn sharper than 4ws. these are just my expirences with the 2 ...

good luck and post some pics

i did read it, he is only using ONE esc...

so even with franky rizzo's dig set-up which also shorts the motor to provide brake- Very Simple and small dig cutoff for the clod
4ws is better for a 17" long super?

Imo yes , i ran an electronic dig and a mechanical dig on my 16.5" super and it would just drag the rear tires around with the electronic dig it would most times force the rear tires to roll rizzo's dig only gives you about 70% dynamic braking and thats with a brand new motor , i have electronic front and rear dig on my 2.2 comp rig and love it but its only trying to stop 5.25" tires not 7" supers...

4 wheel steer is much better on a long wheelbase clod and if I were useing 2 speed contolers I would just buy a 4 channel stick radio and have both rear steer and front and rear dig.

well guys, looks like i'm doing the 4ws then! thanks for your input, i didnt think there'd be that much difference just because of the size of the tires!

Why not do both? Have 4WS, set up with a y-harness. Then you can run the speed controllers on independent channels, set as a master and slave, and program a mix that will give you dig, at the flip of a switch.

Thanks for all the input guys. Been busy with work and haven't gotten to do much with it so far. I did have time to tear it down and find a bunch of little stuff that needs to be fixed. Lets just say there were alot of shortcuts taken that need to be addressed. I also need to order new axles for the raptors. they are wore out. Since it will be a little while before i get it running, I'm sending the chassis out to be powdercoated. I'll post pics as soon as i get some of it put back together

You're allowed both so why not?

If you only have 3 channels at your disposal independant 4WS is probably more effective. Reverse Y-harnessing the steering to free the third channel for dig can cause more problems than you might think, the rear sometimes steering where you don't want it to go as you try to steer the front. Use your third channel for the rear steering. Even if it's not proportional, independant control of the rear is best.

I'm set up 4 channel with 2 ESC's and a stick radio, independant control of everything. Front throttle and steering on the left stick, rear throttle and steering on the right stick. I'm just starting to learn to drive it, and it ain't easy.

Hustlers rock. Hopefully your previous owner left it unmolested.

Good luck with the Raptors. I don't like mine at all. If you have'nt run them yet, let's just say I hope you're a fan of excessive wheelspeed. Actually, if you have Raptor 1's and would like a spare set for parts (from what I've read you'll need them) PM me I'll cut you a deal on mine. I'm switching to a set of Berg's...
