| El cheapo adjustable motor mount
If you are like me and have a limited budget but need an adjustable motor mount here's a quick fix: Slot the upper motor mount holes in the gearbox(aka mudcow) and make an eccentric out of a flat piece of aluminum to hold the motor from moving. Simply loosen the screws and rotate the eccentric till proper gear mesh is achieved and then re-tighten |

Here's some pics I believe that are close to what you are talking about. I found them on this site. Our simple adjustable motor mount lets you run any pinion from 8T up to 20T by allowing the motor to move closer to (or further away from) the internal gears. Again, made from 6061 2.5mm plate and provided with all mounting hardware, all you need to do is Drift-Out the upper mounting hole in your diff case the same as the motor mount and away you go. If you remove the brass inserts and use a motor with 4 optional holes to mount, use the furthers to one side thus pushing the motor more toward the spur. I do this and can use 8 or 9 tooth pinions

I haven't had to mod the gear case much, depending on what size pinion you run. I have been able to mesh a 9 tooth without mod, but an 8 tooth I had to drill out the mounting holes another 1/32

This is a great mod and cheap at that for sure but... To make it easier to set up your mesh why not do this: 1. Cut out a section (Yellow) in the plate 2. Cut a scrap piece of lexan to cover the hole slightly bigger Dia. 3. Put a small bead of black urethane around the outter Dia. 4. Place the pre-cut piece of lexan over the hole and let stand for a few hours. |

if you dont use the brass insert tubes cant you crack the gearcase from over-tightening? and if its not tight enuff slippage/geardamage?

you sand them down just a little to allow it to be slightly tighter and you use a washer to get more contact
