I just find it amusing at how many times this thread has been linked too.... I'm also curious as to how many people have built their own copies of a Stick type chassis from the material list? I actually found this thread very helpful I spent a lot of time searching the form for this and couldn’t find it.....(because project Xerox didn’t mean anything to me when searching for ball ends) but someone linked me to this thread and answered my questions that is what a form is all about.... so you can keep your cookie

OK Rick, for those who don't know, like me, making this a "Complete" Stick Resource Thread, what rod ends and threaded material/aluminum rods are you using for the two control links at each end? I just ordered the materials above, so all I need now are info on making links. I can build server/battery mounts and the like, but I need to figure out what ball ends and rod ends to use, also for the steering setup. I like your twin server setup, and I will be Xeroxing that too |

On our main page we have some Tech Articles that show you a way, maybe 2 ways, to build links. Part numbers and all!

Ahhh there it is. I remember reading that somewhere before.... Rigid aluminum tube http://www.mcmaster.com search for part #8978K53 6-32 Threaded rod http://www.mcmaster.com search for part #98910A007 $1.67 Rod ends http://www2.towerhobbies.com However, after reading that review, I think I will just get some soild 1/4" od Aluminum rod locally and then turn down the ends and tap them. That way I will have one piece rods. I don't like the idea of having the metal threaded rod inside a hollow aluminum rod. Seems like it would possibly be heavier and would come loose eaiser. Of course I will thread lock it all up, but its just piece of mind Last edited by BigMike; 03-07-2006 at 08:44 PM. |

The aluminum tube and 6/32 threaded rod should be available at any hardware store.

I tryied the solid aluminum rod and didn't like how long it took to make links. my favor method is to use all thread or your choice and sleeve it with brake line! super durable to rock rash and REALLY fast and cheap to build.

Try a main DIY store branch home improvements type of place. Most stock lengths of metal and odds and sods. | |

| McMaster Carr Ball End Part #'s.
McMaster Carr Part Number: 1064K541 Is the Correct P# for the Rod ends you need to build this copy. The # I supplied fits the 3/8 24 x 1 1/2 button heads, as well as fit in the Clod axle case. The ones listed in this thread are McMaster carr Part Number: 1064K551, these are 7/16 -20, and have a shank size of 7/16", which does not fit the bolts or, the Clod Axle housing. I built one of these awhile ago, and the P# supplied for the Ball ends isn't correct. Not to step on anybodys toes, but the parts don't fit together. Just thought I'd pass this along. Go to McMaster Carr and check it if you are in doubt. http://www.mcmaster.com/ |

I just updated the pictures so "hopefully" people won't have problems seeing them.... As for the Rod End Part numbers - I DID use the 7/16"-20 ones - See I tapped the Clod Axle case 7/16-20 so I wouldn't have to worry about it ever falling. If you don't want to tap out your clod axle housings, then ust use the 3/8-24 ones... |
