Default pinion pitch

What is the difference between pinions with a 32p and a 48p?

The profile of the teeth are different. They are not interchangeable.

Without going to crazy and writing about book about what pitch is, all you really need to know is that pitch is a measurement of the angle of the teeth, in relationship to the point at which the teeth mesh with another gear of the same kind. The smaller the number, the more coarse, stronger, and noisier the teeth are. 48 pitch is finer then 32 pitch, but because the teeth are smaller, you can get a wider range of gear ratios using it.

Ha. The email notification says you typed 48 pitch, but you must have edited the reply, after. I was going to bust your chops, and now I can't!
