Finally decided to build a rockcrawler, and chose to build a clod, I like the looks of the Mad Force axles but couldn't find any that were cheaper than clod axles. I chose a simple chassis to make and am using RC10gt rear shock towers for the chassi and arrow shafts for the links, top links are adjustable at chassi and wheel base is around 16". Using RCGuy wheel adapters and motor mounts, also using RC4WD top link mounts. Shocks are from Hot Bodies, and the stock tires are just for fit up, will be using Losi Zombies and RPM wheels that are currently on my Savage for now. Used Savage motor mount braces for the bottom of the chassi which is approx. 3" wide, other mods are behind the axle front steering and custom servo mount for the rear, servos are Hitec 645's and Lathe motors with 9 and 10 tooth pinions. Still need to fit up the skid plate and get a body for it. Here are the pics. Front Showing BAS Side shot Closeup Top view Rear view, still need to make a draglink Poser flex shot Still have some work to do, can't wait to try her out. This forum has been a wealth of information. Next I'd like to build a tube chassi with some Mad Force or XTM axles. Last edited by Dnmeistr; 09-20-2005 at 07:20 PM.

Nice rig man, looks like you did your homework. Have you locked the differentials yet?

I did lock the diffs, used hot glue, probably not the best idea but we will see how it holds up, figured if it fails it would be easy to remove the hot glue and use JB weld. The lower shock mounts are just standard black nylon cable ties. I still need to secure them better so they don't slide.

I used industrial hot glue on my diffs and they are still solid. BTW Nice rig.

man, that looks really good.. I'd reccomend finding something to "X" brace the chassis. Using Shock towers as chassis plates is a great idea, but when the thing starts articulating under heavy load, the chassis plates will want to twist against each other. You could use some 1/8" thick x 3/8" wide aluminum beams with bent/drilled tips to run diagonally from the upper to lower cross member bolts. or, Make a "battery plate" and bend up the sides to bolt under the existing lower cross member bolts. You'll need washers to widen the top by the same thickness. Even if you don't put a battery there, it'll make a good belly skid plate. The horizontal reinforcement will reduce or eliminate the torsional twisting.

The skid plate will be finished today, just waiting for the paint to dry. I thought I would need x braces also but I tried twisting the chassi plates and they would not budge, I think the skid plate is all I will need to add. I'll get a pic of it later today.
