Default Gear ratios with Lathe

Which gear ratio do you guys think is "best" for a 55t?

Here's what each pinion gives as a drive ratio.

8T 48.89:1
9T 43.46:1
10T 39.11:1
11T 35.56:1
12T 32.59:1
13T 30.08:1
14T 27.94:1
15T 26.07:1
16T 24.44:1

I'm running the 8T with lathes (~49:1).

What's everyone else running?

Yup, that's me. Thanks!

Just wondering what the popular opinion on gear ratios was right now.

I'm in the design phase of a new crawler for '06...trying to nail down ratios before I get into all the time spent in front of the mill.

I am using the 8T 48.89:1
Have you seen the new reductions from RC4WD? Maybe a set up with the reductions, lathes, and more than the typical amount of voltage would work .

I have found that while 73.4: 1 is great for real tight technical stuff, as well as climbs and especially descents, it is a little too slow for slicker rock where some wheelspeed is required. (Like at Bucks Pocket) I'm going to bump it up to around 60: 1 and see what happens.

For AZ crawling I like 9T pinions with the lathes on 7.2V.

I have always liked 10 tooths myself with the 55turn lathes on 7.2, good balance of wheelspeed with plenty of torque.

So my answer would have to be 39.11:1

8 cells, 10 tooth in front, 9 tooth in back.

From experimenting, in my parts of the woods, it's a good compromise between wheelspeed and torque.

If I had to choose between one or the other, I'd choose 9 teeth pinions.

I installed 8t pinions and lathe motors and 7 cell packs in the one I am building. I should know how I like it this week.

10 in front and 9 in the back, but with p-94 style end bells it's too fast for my liking i wish i could find some 8t pinions that are cheap.i may wind a 60 turn motor to slow it down

I like 10 in the front 9 in the rear too on my super crawler.
With 9.6V this makes a kick *** setup.

On my 2.2 clod I run a 14 up front and 13 in back with 5" tires. Again, with 9.6V you get good low end grunt and tire speed when you need it.

RC4wd sells them on ebay one at a time so if you only need one to try a 9/8 combo, plus the ones he sells are longer than any others you can buy so you get more gear mesh and the price isn't to steep
