Default Culetto's First Super

Im building a Super class for the first time so i started this to ask lots of questions of all the clod guru's out there. So far i only have some clod axles with bearings and upper link mounts. Most of my questions are related to parts compatability and the axles.

I'm going to run 23mm or 17mm wheel hex adapters. With TTR CVD's will they fit? Do they need to be specific ones to fit the 8mm axle or can they just be drilled out?

Im probably going to run 40series wheels/tires. Will 55t motors with 6t pinions on 11.1v be low enough to get it up the rocks? I also have a pair of OG Revolvers sitting here i could throw in it if needed.

From reading your initial post it sounds like you are heading in the right direction. One of the best things about the Clod is that there are tons of after-market parts. Of course, not all of them are applicable to crawlers but lots can be readily adapted.

Keep this thread updated so we can follow your progress and cheer you on.

Carl

Mitch, I sent you a PM about the adapters I mentioned last weekend.

Great start on a SUPER. Glad to see we are getting some attention. I would recomend going with the 17mm hex. It will leave you with more wheel options IMO.

Yes but will a standard 17mm wheel hex adapter fit over the TTR CVD or will it have to be drilled out? I cant tell from the pictures on various sites what the setup is.

TTR had 17mm hex's for there CVD's... $25

Or are you talking about the Adapter mounting to the CVDs?

These will bolt right up, but you will need to buy Bolts instead of the Barrel nuts that come in this kit.

TT CVD's come stock with plastic 12mm outer drives. You can buy the aluminum ones... Item MIP-CB12. From there, I have the H.R. 15mm offset adapters to use 23mm wheels.

If you are running TTR CVD's almost all buggy and truggy wideners will work great and can be had in 17 or 23mm in a bunch of different widths.

Its awsome to get new interest in supers. In my opinion they are the heart and soul of rc crawling becasue if you want it you must find parts and build it. For the most part no walking in to the LHS and coming out with a RTR super. For your wheels and tires keep an eye on those tenn. boys, panther appears to be they way to go. I have run 14mm on my custom axle and clod based supers with no problems yet. I run 14mm because the first set of wheels were MGT. Good luck, keep us up to date with some pics when you can.

Are they M3 or M4 threads in the CVDs?

So the cross pins in the CVD's are the larger version like 1/8th scale?

I forget about the threads...I think they were standard but not sure. Ok found it they are 10-32 standard threads so just find set screws to hold the pin. The set screws included in most adapters are m4 i believe and will not work in the TTR CVD's.

I believe the cross pins are the same because I have used a number of different off set wheel adapters from the 1/8th scale truggies and have never had a problem.
