Default tire questions??

i'm building a cold with a pimpcane chassis. it will have a 15.5 inch. i'm just wondering if everyone thinks i should go maxx size or 40 series. i cant seem to decide,i want a taller tire around 6-6.5 but i cant seem to find a maxx size. if anyone has any pics of a truck with a similar wb i would love to see them so i can try to figuire it out.
thanks ben

Ben,

Not sure if you ever plan on getting into any competitions but if so you might want to go ahead and make your wheelbase 16" as that is now the minimum in the 2009 rules.

As for tires and wheels, I think there are arguments for going each way and to me it really comes down to personal preferences.

I like the 40 series and supposedly ProLine is coming out with a new tire this year for the super class. Finally we are getting some new rubber after waiting what seems like forever.

Imex makes a Rubicon which is quite tall, like 7" or so I think.

I like mine so far. The foam that comes with them is way to hard so you will need to get new foam or cut the stock ones. They are very soft but not sticky like a proline. I am going to go at them with something to get them sticky. I will post the results when I try it. Also I like them because with a 3.2 rim it looks a little more real with some sidewall to them. They are right at 7 in tall and the same width as a moab xl. Good size overall. Good luck with the build, get some pics up when you can.

Those tires look an awful lot like the Rock Lizard, STJ7780. Cool!!

On my super I have a set Losi Claw tires and I also have a set of 40 series Moabs also. The Claw tires just like the 2.2 rock claws grip really really well.

The claws are just a bit shorter than the moabs.

The new Traxxas Canyon AT's are a fairly aggressive crawler tire at a little under 7 inches. They are as big as the 40 series Moab with a bit more side bite to them.

There just isn't much available in the 40 series crawler tire dept. I wish there were more options.

What rims are you running the Rubicons on? That is a great price by the way.

I run a set of maximizers with rock rings. They work great. I have run the tires with foams, no foams and cut foams so having beadlocks is the way to go. Here are some pics.

They fit great in the maximizers, just be sure to use the shims that come with the wheels. The frame is mine, I came up with it myself, it works pretty good and cost me about $20 and 2 hours, aluminum sheet was free, nuts and bolts and 1/4 al rod from the depot. I made two when I did it and now am waiting for another project to use the second one.

I cut some custom foams the other day. I have not had a chance to run them yet. When my parts come in I will post the results.
This is the post on them.

WalMart sells memory foam inserts for Supers!!!
