| Clod to Nylint Wheel Adapter
Hey everyone, I had an epiphany tonight while rebuilding my axles I thought I would share with everyone. I have a set of Nylint 1/6 scale MT Baja Claws that I really like because of the treads and realism. Of course the hex don't match up...or so I thought. In the middle of locking my diff I noticed there was a hex nut inside the gearbox that looked suspiciously like the same size as the Nylint wheel hex. As it turns out, it's a perfect fit! This is the hex nut connector on the bevel gear of the diff. Ok, how to make this fit on the short axle on the clod axle? Well it just slides right on, the axle splines are the same size! See the pictures below. http://groups.msn.com/1978FJ40Landcr...to&PhotoID=315 http://groups.msn.com/1978FJ40Landcr...to&PhotoID=317 http://groups.msn.com/1978FJ40Landcr...to&PhotoID=316 The hex connector gives just enough clearance on the axle for you to turn the wheel nut maybe one turn. Only thing is you have to remove the clip ring and washer to get enough clearance. the hex connector will have to rest directly on the knuckle bearing. http://groups.msn.com/1978FJ40Landcr...to&PhotoID=318 But there are no clearance or rubbing issues with the knuckle on the inside. http://groups.msn.com/1978FJ40Landcr...to&PhotoID=319 The best part about this mod is that it is CHEAP with no cutting or grinding. It's a direct fit without any modification. The only major problem is that you may not have enough threads from the short axle to properly screw on the wheel nut. I figured a little thread lock should take care of that. The hex connector can be ordered from the "Clod Buster Junkyard" for $1 each, item number SP4. http://members.aol.com/clodjunkyard/junkyard.htm I have talked to Darren at Thunder Tech Racing, who runs the "Junkyard", about this idea. They have a "long-capture" nut that they use on their wheel widener kit that may solve the wheel nut problem. He is sending me one of the long-capture nut to try. They are $5 a piece he says. If it works, he may be putting together a package deal of some sort for everyone. It's up to you, either $4 some thread lock and hope it holds or wait for Darren. I hope you find this useful and maybe we have one more option on wheel and tires for our beloved Clod Mudsux Last edited by MUDSUX; 09-29-2005 at 09:50 PM. |

Awesome find, however these won't bolt directly on. The wheel is still just a hair thick to get a nut on the stubshaft, a little grinding and it could work though.

Jason, I think you read my post before I got done writing it. :-P I posted the first paragraph and went back and added some pictures. You may want to call Daren before you pull out the dremel. Mudsux |

good idea, heres the method i used: just drill out the center section to allow a standard wheel nut and tamiya wrench in there.and then to the back part of the rim, center the clod hub and mount it to the back with five screws, DONE and other than the 20 screws its free and very secure. the nylint rims themselves are two pieces that screw together so they act as bead locks, and they have a removable center section up front that covers the wheel nut and hole |

I love the looks, but some one with comp experience could you make a recomendation as to weather these tires have a place or the potential if treated to run with the big dogs. They look awsome and I am sure it could start a more scale trend for larger trucks if they can hook up.

The tires flex very well, and are decently soft. However they don't have that "stickieness" that prolines M2 compound has. Maybe with some trimming work, some marinating work, and some luck they could be decent for comp use. However with them being so skinny, and having such a narrow track width there could be awsome advantages steering wise. |

Would you be able to check and see if maybe a Traxxas Stampede hex will fit. How cool would that be, a set of those wheels and tires on a wide pede, for just 20 bucks. If possible I'd like to see a pic of your clod completed with those wheels and tires.

So if its the same as the clod, 12mm, it won't fit without cutting down the hex.
