Default Pimp Cane Still Good ??

Well I have a 2.2 crawler and want to make a super on a budget. I already bought on ebay a set of clod axles for cheap and am now on a quest for a good reasonable chassis. In my research The Pimp Cane is the cheapest, but I dont see many people using them anymore. If I dig back in the forum like 2 years many people were running them. So what gives, are they still competitive? Thanks for your opinions !

That is still a great chassis for 2.2 and super clods. It is simple, effective and cheap.

Great ! That fits the bill perfectly for my budget build. Is it me though or are not as many people running this torsion style anymore?

I tend to believe that there are many trend followers. Two years ago, sticks were happening, now days it is back to the conventional style chassis. The die hards will always do what works best for them and usually that means not jumping on the 'follow me' band wagons.

Here is my 09 comp super in the works.
19" JP pimp, JP's 1/4 scale servos, clod w/ RC4WD alum etc.
So far the PC chassis is really cool. I think I may have too much flex though. I might have to pick up some of the limiter thingys from JP

Nice Cane !!! Ok I think Im sold on the Pimp Cane. Did you custom make a mount for the 1/4 servos, or is there one available. If you did make it how hard was it. Thanks

I made them myself. They were pretty simple. I used integy axle braces and made a mount that bolts onto them. I use 1" wide alum stock 3/16 thick. Cut grooves for the bolts and enough off so that it sits flush on the plate. Then marked and drilled hole to mount it. I countersank the holes for a flush fit with a larger drill bit. Tools used were. Drill, Hacksaw, Whire wheel to clean it up and look factory made. Dor the servo mount arms. I used the integy arms that come in the set. This is the set.

It is a very tight fit without wideners. Just make sure you get the servo as close to the axle housing as you can. I even used button head screws instead of cap heads just for that like 1mm diffrence lol. Wideners would probably help a ton. I'm running ttr cvd's so I think they are a tad wider than stock maybe. If you run into trouble just sit back and stare at it for a min. Once the brain gets going anythings possible. Thats what I did and it worked lol.

Default weight

I allready have a lot of weight in the front and I'm not talking allittle steep I'm talking steep like it's hard for the bergs to do but they can do it and I think with the link set up you can dial in front bite more. I'm not saying the pimp cane is bad by any means and it has some benifits that kill the bergs like center clearence over ledges and things like that so to me it all equals out but does seem that the guys with the bergs and other lower cars set up the courses so that those benifits don't usually come into play.LOL I love my comp clod and like to be different so it's perfect for me and I saved a ton of money so I could afford more crawlers which is a plus. The othe thing with 2.2 clods is to get the width as narrow as possible so 1 I would look for some clod offset wheels like the mayhems helped alot and I love them.

I don't think he cares about your alluminum. But that would make it a torsion chassis. By no implication inferior but not however a Pimpcane. I think there has been a lot of development in the pimpcane chassis however simple it seems. I know I might be a bit turned off by someone misrepresenting my product. Although I think it's a bit of a backhanded compliment, kinda like everyone calling a flavored gelatin dessert Jello
