Sweet Build... I'm about to start mine soon as well.

TheHeadHunter 04-04-2009 01:07 AM

Very COOL8) just don't put a L Grappler on it please

clarkrw3 04-04-2009 07:56 AM

Man John I love it!! I kept watching for this thread. Great to see the clearance you have with those links. How tight are they and the rod ends? Do you think you will have any trouble with them twisting and contacting the gearcase/motors? I hope to have my chassis in next week to start my build. Are you going to clarance those axle cases?

Agama 04-04-2009 07:57 AM

Nice build, I love Clods"thumbsup" I want to build a 2.2 with clods.

No Grappler... Not sure yet which body...but I will be buying 2 of them so I can have the same body for my Havoc build. I have paint scheme ideas for both "thumbsup"

I rotated the link itself on the rod ends to use some of the high clearance angle to get them around the motor and case. There's plenty of room to the case on the one side, and there's about 1/8" of clearance to the motor bell on the other. The links still have a bit of twist in the rod ends, but the faces of the rod ends do contact the corners of the pockets on the skid a very small bit. I'm going to take the skid out and bevel those front edges of the link pockets to get rid of that.

Unfortunately, with the links rotated like they are..and the link bodies themselves being so thick, after mounting up the wheels/tires...the fronts scrub the links when turned. Can't get full steering throw without the tire hitting the link. I may be forced to make a set out of the same materials I did for the uppers. Would have liked to run the KK links, but it's not looking like it was meant to be. :-(

When all together like you see it, and twist the whole thing front to back in your hands, the lower links really don't change much in relation to motor & case clearance. It's stays almost the same through the whole travel of the "suspension".

Right at 10" to the outside of the Panthers.

Very nice combination, the KK T and Mini-Clod axles.

I just got my Havoc and HellStrom and really thinking about doing a Mini-Clod Havoc.

Hey John..any updates?? BTW what is the length of your skid? and then what are the lengths of your links? I really need to make myself a jig or buy one. got my skeeter chassis in today but still need internals for the axles.

fperez0209 04-08-2009 09:04 PM

looks really good, i just finished my miniclod about a week ago,now if i can figure out how to post pics lol"thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Kamikaze 04-10-2009 12:52 AM

Thats freekin awsome. I have been considering going to a mini clod. I can't keep the bergs alive...........

SCRC 04-10-2009 01:20 AM

Thats a sick a clod love the look of the chassis.

Grizzly4x4 04-10-2009 01:58 AM

Awesome build John! "thumbsup""thumbsup" Glad to see some different chassis with the Miniclod axles.

I'm setting mine up with a GC-2 chassis now and it seems to go together really nice as well. I just need to bevel the skid like you were saying, to eliminate just a little bit of interference.

Great rig man. 8)

No updates as of yet. Still need to clearance the front case for steering...and get the servo mount installed. I want to do a dig switch at least for the rear...but Holmes is out of the "manly" ones...so I may just have to use the shack versions. I did install a pair of the Gmade Clod upper link mounts (bling bling) so I could get rid of my home-made ones that were not square to the axle.

I think the skid is 2"x 2" if I remember right. Have to check when I get home.

Tell ya what...I think I am going to love this rig. I can't wait to get this chassis on the rocks and see how it works. I unfortunately might have to replace your high clearance links with some plain 'ol links made from acetal tube like the uppers but bent...just to get them around the motors and not have to clock my front axle so far forward. Not sure yet...I have some other ideas to try first.

Thanks Grizz. These axle kits are awesome. Every part that they needed to interact with all went together smoothly. When you guys are up and running again...I'd like to pick up another set :)

Seems like it took forever though for me to grind down the collar on the rear straight axles....maybe it was because I used a grinding drum from a Dremel :)
