Nope, plent of folks run different tooth pinions on their motors. I run different turn motors on my clod (55T front and 60T rear), however, I run dual ESCs, but that shouldnt make a difference.

So 2 55t motors would be fine? Also, is it better to run 2 esc or 1 esc? Any benefit w/ one or the other?

would you be running them in parallel? (positive off of esc to positive of each motor, same with negative) that would give you a motor equivalent to a 27t... as long as your esc can handle a 27t.... which most esc's should...

Default benefit

one benefit to 2 esc's is (if) you are running a stick radio, you have a lot more control over the 2 motors. You can run the rear, the front, or both whenever you need.....

are you running adjustable motor mounts? if you are, i would try like 45t's, if you want a little more wheel speed, or if you like slow go with 55t..

what battery are you gonna run?

slow???? I can rock race with twin 55t's and 8t pinions. Of course 11.1v helps

I have seen allot of people run 1 esc with a 55t front and 45t rear to help combat stall. In all reality the only way to truely eliminate it is to run 3 esc's. 2 escs also give you control over both axles, this can be handy to get you out of a bind.

Currently I run 1 Mamba Maxx and 0 issues, soon to be 2 mamba Maxx's and 0 issues.

I don't know if it's common in the US, but here in Italy in relative-low-current applications such as crawlers (on even drifters) cheap chinese LiPos are becoming the rule.

You can actually find a couple of 4000mAh 15C LiPos for less than 25-30$, including shipping, on eBay if you purchase them from Hong Kong.

I personally run 4000mAh 15C batteries on my drifter and 3200mAh 25C on my scaler Bug and they work flawlessly

I used to run two Novak55's off one Mamba Max - stalling of the rear when trying to climb up something was a problem!
Now I got two Mamba Max ESC's a Castle BEC and a (DX6i) stick radio - it's like a new rig! Awesome! Highly recommended! I wish I'd gone for motors with stronger magnets though, the Integy 55t Lathe magnets seem to be stronger than the Novak55's. IMO.

even though you didn't say what kinda application you're running(2.2, super, rock racing, etc), i find my 35 turns with 9 tooth pinions to be a bit fast for my 2.2. it all depends on specifically what you're wanting to do.
