DIG switch (cheaper + better alternative to punk maybe?)

Found this at servo city. Its also solid state like the punk rc DIG system.
http://www.servocity.com/html/electr...ch__dual_.html

It's rated at 60amps up to 60vDC. Not sure how it wires up though. Just sent them an email. It only costs $35.

LOOKS HUGE!!! I doubt it will catch on... space is a premium.... Stick with the punk dig. It is made for crawling, nothing else.

joesbruiser 09-06-2009 05:51 PM

I would go with the Punk unit myself."thumbsup"

Stick King 09-06-2009 08:38 PM

thanks for posting the find.

i thank you for posting up for us."thumbsup" i currently run a punk dig & im not sure if i will order one of these but the cost is right. u can almost get 2 of them for the cost of 1 punk. also may help to try n ditch the big yellow box.

It's a nice little box but i vote for Punk, because of it's capability to short
out the motors while diggin, that's what the lil yellow one doesn't. But
maybe one of us gives it a try and tell us how it does.

Greetings Frank

That is waht I wasn't sure of about wiring it up. Looking at the outputs on the board, it seems like there are three connections for each "switch" on the yellow box. That means you may be able to wire it up just like having 2 switches and a servo, which in turn means you would be able to get a shorting dig. I am waiting for a reply to my email to find out. I requested a wiring diagram / a copy of the manual pictured.

Also, I didn't notice the size.

EDIT: just checked it out again to see the size. It's only about the size of a reciever, is that really that big? (I haven't even started my super build yet).

EDIT2: Just checked out the punk site, definately looks as big as the yellow box to me.

The Punk is using relais changeover contacts and the yellow box uses
transistors, so you have to switch on the transistor for current flow.
There are two ways a transistor can support that:

1. It switches the minus pole (ground) to the motor and plus pole is fixed.
2. it switches the plus pole to the motor and minus pole is fixed.

Maybe i'm wrong, but to short cut a motor and on the other side give him
the power it needs with a transistor isn't that easy. But the relais contacts
have no problems with it.

I like it for controlling a winch though!!

I could see it being great for lights... you could wire it up so you would have left and right blinkers.

Has anyone used this one from Novak? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXKA9&P=7
Who sells the punk rc one?

Dr.Frank 09-07-2009 08:00 AM

Hello,

for the novak you need two ESC. The Punk is sold by wł.punkrc.com, have a look: http://www.punkrc.com/index.php?main...products_id=28

punkrc.com

The novak unit doesn't work the same.

Paul97 09-07-2009 08:07 AM

Thanks,I just checked out the web site. It looks like I will be getting one for my Clod based 2.2 comp rig.

Stick King 09-07-2009 08:24 AM

punk

i honestly have had zero issues with my punk digs. Also sounds like they are not the same. id stick with that for comp rigs but others are right....your find would be cool for lights, winch and so on. it is smaller than i first thought as well. lol

kasper 09-07-2009 08:30 AM

I got two punks and sometimes price is not an option for quality.

I can't tell if you are promoti ng or dissing punk, lol.

ANyhow, Frank, you have some good info up there about using transistor switches, so you are probably right. I'll still wait for the manaul though. Again, I am not buying either right now. I was actually looking for a servo there, and saw it in there new stuff section. And was like "oh, that looks like it could be used for dig".

I will probably start my build in a month or so.

Dr.Frank 09-07-2009 03:47 PM

...it's a really cheap offer, which you can use for some scale gimmicks, why not. Maybe a servo micro switch dig is an other opportiunity, but for me,
the punk is it...

Greetings Frank

Spiftacu1ar 09-09-2009 06:04 PM

So i got the rpely to the email. Dr. Frank is right. Its' only on-off. Not a 2 pole switch like the momentaries and the punk. Bummer.

Electronic PWM Switch (Dual)

Looks interesting ,but they need to show the wiring for the motors, the price is right ,and since the customer service at punkrc is pathetic,( i ordered my switch 10 days ago , emailed 2 times and still no answer), and servo city has good customer service and they ship quick , i`d say punk rc finally may have some compitition.
