Colby Builds a Super!

Yeah, Decided a few weeks ago that I would like to do another winter project, and thought it would be cool to build a super to run at ECC 2010. I originally was going to run a mantis, but I won this at the alrc turkey crawl yesterday.

So far my parts list include:
Spektrum DX3 radio/receiver
Sidewinder ESC
1 Tekin 55t motor
JPcustoms Hell Strom chassis
E-maxx shocks

Parts that will be bought this week:
XL moabs
Whatever wheels my LHS has cheap
Clod axles
Delrin for links

This will be a slow build thread, just like my first berg thread. I loved building my berg from chassis up, so i am going to do the same thing with this, except this time I have the hard parts done 8)

I'll be watching this thread... I am really thinking of getting this chassis to replace the hustler. Not sure if I will use my built clods or go a different route.

Ive already drawn up my geometry for the rig, and its looking pretty good. I too am not sure how I will like the chassis, but run2jeepin seems like a cool dude, so im going to give this thing a full review. I should have more to look at here in the next week or two "thumbsup"

I dont care what compound they are, you cant beat 10 bucks

Ive got 2 sets of rovers, so If it comes down to it I will take those and make some super tires.

has anyone ever used this servo? http://xtreme-rc-hobbies.net/store/p...roducts_id=185

I figured i would not run any weight in my rear end, so it would be pretty light, and 300oz is not that bad for that price... What do you guys think? Would it be ok for a rear steer servo?

That's more like 200 oz and it won't last on a super, they don't hold up too well on 2.2 for that matter.

Colby 11-23-2009 10:53 AM

Oh ok, guess I need to read a little better  Thanks Scattman 8)

Colby 11-23-2009 01:35 PM

No turnin back now!

Gotta thank PIMPNROCKS for the awesome deal on the axles. I cant beleive how awesome of a condition they are in!!!

The axles came unlocked, I guess he ran them on the monster truck, that will also explain all the ugly bumpers and canteliver suspension.
Bunch a spair parts!

Took all the useless crap off:

Back out to do some work. Do work builder!

Colby 11-23-2009 07:04 PM

Got some BTA goin on on the front axle. That isnt the servo im going to be running, just used it for mockup. I may change the arm setup, but i think the mount and the tierod is pretty solid.

Mudsy 11-23-2009 07:21 PM

Looks like it'll flex big time... Try lowering the servo completely on top of the brace. Try a Rc4WD servo mount/brace combo or similar... Perhaps Hand Brother servo mount kit would be what you might want? Otherwise just keep on trying your best. Looks like you off to a good start.

Colby 11-23-2009 07:38 PM

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I cant actually lower the servo anymore because thats all the room I have. If i move it down anymore then the links will not be able to move when mounted to the knuckle. Thanks for the encouragement buddy 8)

Colby 11-23-2009 08:59 PM

My rc10t3 has been broken and torn apart for a while now, and i figured i would take the shocks off of it to use until i could find me smome better ones. So heres a bored mock up. Still waiting on my skid, wheel adapters, wheels, and links. All should be here by the end of the week thanks to:
Reflection, SVEN, Krawlerhobbies, and Bigflex Thanks yall!!
