Default What Wheel base

What wheelbase are ya'll running on your Clods? I have been playing around with a few things, and I think I am up to about a 20" wheelbase. I don't think I am going to keep it there, and I have to play with the height, but just tryting to figure out which direction I should go with this.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

16 1/8" I really like it there. It seems to be a good compromise between vertical climbing ability and breakover angle.

What tires are ya'll using? Right now I have stock Kongs, but I don't think I am going to be using them for crawling until I narrow them. They are nice and big, but they also seem like they will just break parts.

For competitions I run IMEX JumboMaxx Swamp Dawgs to keep the CG real low. When I am trail riding I like to run the Losi LST's for the extra ground clearance.

If yer runnin Kongs I would suggest a 17" ~ 17.5" wheelbase. Dirk runs 17" WB on The Digler and that seemed to be pretty good with the Kongs. That is the only crawler I have seen in person running kongs and werking well. Dont tell Dirk I said that though.

I'd say 17"... but I like a long wheelbase. I also have rear steer. My rig right now it 18.5" Great for vertical stuff and extremely stable, but I find it near impossible in the tight spots.

I would go for 24 feet. Make it super tall also. A blip of the throttle will put your front tires through the gates of any obstical, even if your rear tires are still at the first gate. You will win every event.

Well, I am not talking about my 1:1 CJ or YJ, I am talking about my CLOD. Besides, I am not sure I could get a motor to run anything that long.

Oh! Then I'd go for 37 feet.

sorry man, I shouldn't have said that. I was kidding, but it just wasn't right.

I am just trying to find out what people are using, and even though you think you are being funny, I am being serious as I am about to drop some cash on lathing and tapping links and want to make sure it is right. RIght now I am trying to get a starting point, and I think what I have is not a good starting point.

I think your best bet would be to fab some up and test em.... heck, make 4 different lenghts and see how you like em. Try some crazy stuff, like a really short wheelbase up to a crazy long wheelbase. everyones driving style calls for a different setup. for example: I could drive a certain obsticle all day long and tear it up, whereas i could hand it over to someone else that will have nothing but troubles and end up breakin stuff. I'd do a little R&D before dropping some serious cash on links....

Happy Flexin

I measured up last night, and I am at 17-3/4" wheelbase. I think I am going to shorten the front and get it back in the 16" range. But not before I test it out.
