Zilla II Transformation!

We were in the LHS today. The Boy picked up a new body for his Zilla. I painted it up for him this evening. I also tried to paint his stock wheels black and messed them all up, so I gave him my Slingers and chromies. I'm going to sell off some stuff to get a new set for myself. Thinking of going aluminum, we'll see.

Anyway, here's today's project...

Before: (yes, it's the same green as my old Zilla, AND his Hornet, but that's what he wanted...)

After:

In case you're wondering, the rod ends coming out of the hood are holding the body on. I got tired of waiting for the front mounts to come from ESP, so I made some out of some short steerring rods. It's temporary, but I kinda dig the look for some odd reason...

Carbon Fiber bed strips:

The body didn't come with a "Bowtie" decal, so I cut one out of the Carbon fiber sheet. Kinda ruff, but I didn't want to paint it, and figured the CF would look cool:

What do you think?

Nice Truck

I like the way the rad ends look too. Great job on cutting the bow tie!

It looks nice I like it!

That truck would look at home in 6 inches of mud.

Here's some things for the wet stuff :).

Party balloons for receiver.

Zip ties for balloons.
http://www.universalpart.com/Plastic...item_5416.html

Rubber dip for servos.
http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

Locate ESC high on chassis. Or if it does'nt get to hot. A sandwich bag or balloon might help. For total submersion a waterproof/resistant ESC is a must. Sucks to be out a couple hundred, from a mistake in the river .

Good water resistant ESC.
http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...4&cat=2&page=1

Marine greese for tranny gears and axle shafts.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard...67/detail.aspx

Even when packing your axles with greese. I find cracking them apart after heavy wet runs. Is a good idea. Set machine in a warm place. Air dry what water you can't towel up.

Electric motor cleaner for grime.

It's a CLodzilla II chassis. The company web site is here:

If it's something that you're considering purchasing, ask for the Ebay price though. It's half price. That's what I did when I bought mine.

Broken again...

It's official. I'm done with plastic tubes and knuckles from here on out. We took the boy's truck out for a run today and broke another tube and knuckle. I have CPE inner AND outer stiffeners in there too. This time we didn't hit anything, take any jumps, nothing! He was doing donuts though. I guess that's what did it.

Anyway, I already put a spare set of aluminum knuckles on the front last time I broke it. I just ordered HR tubes tubes for both axles, an HR knuckles for the back. I figure at this rate, they'll pay for themselves fairly soon...

Got the Boys aluminum axle tubes and knuckles on today. Hopefully he can drive it tomorrow without breaking something now...

I actually already had this set of black knuckles on the front of his truck from the last time it broke. I don't know the brand, but they seem to work well.
The Hot Racing tubes are new though:

So yesterday I buttoned my Boy's Zilla up with a feeling of serenity, comforted by the knowledge that I had just put HD aluminum axle tubes and knuckles on, KNOWING that I wouldn't have to open those axles up again for a LOOOONG time.
Well here it sits... :(

About three minutes into his maiden run this afternoon with the new aluminum bits, he stood it on the back bumper. He started to walk over to it. Me being the genius that I am said "why are you walking over there? Just hit reverse. He did, it came down, the front tires hit the ground with power to them, we both heard the sickening tell tale "crack", and here we are with the Zilla in pieces once again.
:bang

Missed the "steel" part of that question. I just ordered a set of regular old replacement gears. I can only find the $120 STEEL gears myself.
