have alittle bit done with the side rail part of the build. need to clean up the welds a bit, and weld the other side. but most of it is done. - the mounting brackets for the links

Looks good. For the links, try and make them so you can run the upper & lower links parallel as it keeps the axle castor the same as the suspension cycles. Little harder to do though on a tube chassis than on a TVP chassis.

This is our Grave Digger replica race Clod:

Re: kdrodworks316 grave digger build

I got my wheels and tires today for this rig, rc4wd clod beadlocks and rumble tires. I got them all put together and damn! they are heavy! I'm doing aluminum gear cases, tubes, knuckles and wheels. All that bolted to this steel chassis, its going to be a heavy pig. Anyone got some suggestions for motors? I'm using a singled out evx2 for an esc, and I want to race it, so it needs to be quick and fairly fast. I was thinking 19turn doubles. What do you think Brett? Your a clod racer.

Re: kdrodworks316 grave digger build

If you're going to race, I'd ditch the aluminum cases and wheels. Those wheels in particular are REALLY heavy and will add a ton of stress to your knuckles and axles. I'd also look at maybe getting some CVD axles as they will handle a lot more power than the stock ones will.

For motors, you're kind of limited to what brushed motors are even available anymore. Epic, Trinity, and Orion all make good brushed motors, and you'll want something the 11T range for a full-on mod Clod. You can do something like a Pro-Lite class truck and use 17-19T motors also.

Re: kdrodworks316 grave digger build

You bring up some good points Brett, I think I will save the wheels for a show truck. I should have done some research before buying them and got the delrin instead. I'm probably going to have Nick build another clod based truck anyway, maybe it can be the shelf queen show truck.

It seems I've forgotten alot about clods in the last 10 years, Its been to long since I had one to remember all the performance tricks from back in the day. I'm going to look around for some hot motors to power this thing. I'm going to stick to the aluminum tubes and knuckles with cvds, I just got dont watching a video of Bretts digger break a chubs within seconds of starting a freestyle run. BTW Brett, that digger truck is hot! Runs like a scalded dog!"thumbsup"

Dont forget the flag mount on the back Nick, gotta have a spot to fly the colors! Speaking of a flag, Brett, where would a guy get a lil jolly roger flag? What size is the one on your race truck?

Re: kdrodworks316 grave digger build

I'll get something figured out. what are you going to use as a pole for the flag

Re: kdrodworks316 grave digger build

I'm thinkin a piece of 1/8 piano wire, so just a little tube stand the wire would go in should work. Drill a hole in the tube and the wire and stick a body clip in it to hold it. That should work fine.
